High End Badger Brush...Which are Available?

What are some of the higher-end Badger Brushes which are currently available for purchase? 

Nothing more frustrating than visiting a company's website only to see every brush is "Sold Out" or "Not Available".  My thought is why even bother having a website with product listings if none are available.

I currently own Paladin and Shavemac brushes with I absolutely love, but looking to add another quality brush to the collection.

Been hearing so much about Mozingo, Varlet, Black Eagle etc... and the great products they manufacture.  Nothing ever in stock though. What are some other alternatives of high quality?

I won’t voluntarily put myself in the arena of brush makers listed above, but I do make it a point to always have high-quality, handmade handles in-stock.

Additionally, I found an excellent source for very-high quality Manchurian 2-band Badger can knots. I have the 26mm Timberwolf synthetic and a premium 26mm boar knot as well.

Brad Sears and M&F are world class

Elite makes the best handles have ever encountered, is incredibly easy to work with, affordable and does genuine customs to YOUR specs in the widest variety of materials known to me. Jeez, actually they would be my premiere artisan at the moment.

Do not dismiss classic standbys such as Simpson as they do amazing work with a wide variety of styles and colouration, are very easy to work with and will do some customization such as loft and resin upon request.

Brett Mozingo is definitely my favorite one stop shop for handles and knots but for something available now, Andrew Viking does incredible work creating handles and then just send it off to Scott at DG. I really can’t say enough good things about Andrew Viking, absolutely recommend his work. His soap is also fantastic and worth a try if you like the scent description.

For something a little more affordable, I solely use Viking brushes with his Odin’s Beard SHD knots for my travel brushes and find their quality to be comparable with many DG knots I’ve owned and tried.

Scott's (Declaration Grooming) knots, with the exception of the one off B12 supplier issues, have been outstanding and since his business inception have really been the standard. Also his knotting service is readily available without hassles.

I like the H.L.Thater brushes. They’re readily available. Excellent knots, although some may find the handles a little boring but as for me, boring is just fine. 

My two best badger brushes are a Saville Row 3824 brush purchased through QEDusa.com and a VP Leonhardy brush purchased through The Superior Shave. The nice thing about the VP Leonhardy brushes is that they come in a variety of knot shapes and sizes, so you can pick the one that fits your lathering style. I have some other badger brushes as well, but these two are the ones I most enjoy using.

Agree on Simpson - don’t be put off that they aren’t as ‘artisan’ as others, they are every bit as good, though also as pricey.

Leonidam in Italy makes very beautiful brushes and is not so hard to get, plus you can make a private order if they don’t have the model you like available. Lately he has released new brush drops monthly.

Saponificio Varesino “high mountain white” brushes are always available from multiple retailers and SV themselves.

Finally, for a lot less money, if you haven’t tried a Semogue SOC Mistura yet (mixed badger and boar) then you are definitely missing out on something exceptional.

Plenty of options out there. Depends on what you want. I wouldn't drive myself nuts about what isn't in stock. While I love, love, love brushes, and wouldn't want to part with what I have, there is more similarities than not. You should give us examples of what you love about your brushes you have now, things that you dislike, and what you might be hoping to experience, and from that look for people that have tastes similar to what you have. That's the most helpful thing. Don't get caught up in what we hype about and what we like, unless that happens to line up with what you like. You've got some good brands and you can use that to narrow down more of what you want.

I personally think having an experience with all the grades of pure, best, silvertip, and the 2-band variants is good, along with the different types of hair like boar, horse, and synthetic isn't bad at all. The only mix I would recommend is Semogue's boar/badger mix. Everything else is just a mess. Not that it couldn't be good, but outside of Semogue's boar/badger mix I haven't experienced anything I would recommend. Honestly going with Shavemac for all the grades wouldn't be bad at all. Their quality is excellent. The only thing I avoid with them is 2-band Silvertip usually as it has been tending to be more gelled, and I'm not the biggest fan of that. I trust Bernd though and if I heard he had a batch I liked and was looking for a new brush I wouldn't hesitate. A lot of things others recommend I wouldn't recommend and it is because most of those knots have that gel feeling to it. I enjoy it on occasion, but it is too easy to take it into the realm I dislike it. Check out BST for used deals too if used is okay with you. Personally I have a large number of used brushes and am in triple digits.

Availability can be difficult, but if you’re really concerned about that, follow Declaration Grooming on Instagram or Facebook. Scott has been announcing drops, and you should be able to get something at that time. Right now, the batch is B14, and it’s a really good one.
