Hi from beautiful Bavaria!
I am 40 years old, and for the last 25 years, up until June, I did shave by a combination of electric, followed by two rounds of wet shave with a cartridge razor (everything from Gillette to Wilkinson to no names from the drugstore). The reason is I have extremely thick, wiry hair - shaving only with the electric shaver wasn't thorough enough, and shaving only with the system razor ended bloodily, because the blades tore more over the hair than to glide over it cleanly. So, first the rough stuff electrically, then two passages of wet - that did the job quite okay.
The other day, out of the blue, I came up with the idea of getting a straight razor, simply because I was curious about this method of shaving. After reading along in a German forum, I decided to go with a DE razor first, and got myself a Merkur 38c with ASP blades. The shaves went really good, so I added an Edwin Jagger 3D Laser Diamond, which I am currently using along with either Feather blades, Polsilvers or Personna Platinum.
By now I have also added a Rockwell 6S, an ATT Bamboo R1 and an Ikon B1 OSS to my collection.
I also got a straight razor from small Austrian manufacturer Koraat, which is a beauty, but was forced to sell it again...shame.
Looking forward to learning new things and meeting some nice people here!
You can also find me at the Shavenook under the same name.
Cheers!
