That’s a painting that I can appreciate — at a price that I can’t. Smile

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

Unfortunately shaving is my least expensive hobby.

I will never be a collector of art. I just don't see what makes that painting so valuable.

Like most “things,” even in this shaving hobby, it gets assigned a value. Whether the value is real or perceived, that’s another story… Is a razor really worth $2,500? Probably not, yet I’ve seen a sale like that happen on eBay.

A relative of mine has a painting by a valued artist, and the painting is supposedly worth thousands of dollars. To me, it looks like something a child could have painted during a lunch break in school.

I find such matters interesting to think about. Is a bucket of gold really worth more than a bucket of fresh water? Today, it mostly still is. But in another 20–30 years, I’m not so sure it will be…

Sorry if I got a bit carried away. Smile

Not sure why that painting would garner so much money other than they want to say they own it.

Have to agree with Brian - shaving is my cheapest hobby. The good news is that I am not taking up collecting art anytime soon!

I have been looking to upgrade my art collection - a "Velvet Elvis" and "Dogs Playing Cards" have always been in my favorites.

I do appreciate art - especially Impressionist art and some modern art. I have never wanted to own an original piece of art, as I can see great artwork at museums around.

I have a few prints of my favourite works of art, and I do appreciate the skill with which good artists handle light and colour. I can't say that I 'get' everything about art, but I try to approach it all with an open mind and give each work a chance to impact me. Doesn't always work. Smile

If I had the money, I'd buy reproductions, but for now all I can afford are prints. Big Grin

Maybe not a bucket of gold but here's a picture of gold in its natural state.  My son is working in a gold mine now.   I figured that in a mine with an average ore quality of 4.5 gms/ton, you wouldn't see all that much gold with the naked eye but I was wrong.  The stuff is just lying around.  Apparently in the mud on the floor under a test bore hole there were more gold shavings than mud.  Gold. Confused  Better than water.  Unless of course you're out of water.
