Unfortunately, with the severity of the political and ideological divide in the USA at the current time, not everyone was in a celebratory mood this Independence Day.

In HIghland Park, IL , located about 25 miles north of Chicago, a man opened fire with a high-powered rifle from a rooftop at July 4th parade bystanders. Six people were killed and at least 30 were injured. Highland Park is normally considered to be a safe community, but it was not on this specific day. What should have been a fun activity for families quickly turned to tragedy.

A person of interest has been taken into custody, but the investigation continues.

I have a friend whose son's girlfriend was an announcer for the parade. Although she was unharmed physically, she was traumatized by the shootings and was unable to participate in family activities later that evening.

So sad to see the horrific carnage and heartache! Having two daughters of my own, it pains my heart to even imagine the pain people who lost their loved ones are going through.
