Speaking only from my perspective: It is a big deal. 17-4 gets gummy during machining and is just a bear to work with. Pros may poopoo the difficulty on line but ask them for quotes to do a run of quality razors, finished & shipped to the door to a standard beyond desultory for the real response.

As to feel with other razors, bearing in mind that 17-4 inherently has a harsh face feel.

I only have a few shaves with the 17-4 and I like to wait until my run with the razor is over to write a review, but I'll make some quick comments now. Efficiency of the SB is somewhere between the 1.35 and 1.45 wr2, and smoothness is similar to the 1.55 wr2. There is some blade feel, but it's not over the top. Feels a little like the Carbon Cx but it's both smoother and more efficient. I also think it's smoother than the blackbird. I didn't think I was going to be interested in another razor after buying the Paradigm diamondback, but dammit this razor is also incredible!

How would you compare specifically the DB and the 17-4 SB?

Second shave in and I would say this is a very efficient razor but I can’t say that I find it smooth. It almost has that harsh face feeling that the paradigm 17-4 had. I think I need to experiment with blades some more. Not an uncomfortable shave by any means just not the smoothest.

17-4 is inherently cold and clinical in feel to the skin from my perspective. One needs embrace that trait when using this grade of stainless. Even with an unloaded razor without blade, the metal will exhibit that characteristic face feel. As to blades, may I strongly suggest a Nacet?  Nacets acquit quite well in H&S razors from accumulated experience across Aji’s offerings, striking a perfect blend of closeness with comfort.

Wonderful evening shave and was the best yet with the P076.  Tried a Nacet after a recommendation and it was the best blade I’ve used so far in it.  Shave went from slightly harsh to buttery smooth and efficient.[Image: FdyfYtP.jpg]

Yes, 26 mm but the graphite resin. Great recommendation on the Nacet!
