I am somewhat confused by this razor. On the website they have an aluminum baseplate N075 and a stainless steel N075. The reviews are quite different. Many folks think the stainless steel is more aggressive/less forgiving but as far as I can tell the only difference is the material. I also saw a $300 N076. But the specifications on that razor look close to the N075. Is there a thread that compares all 3?

I emailed Aji, I figured it was best to get the info from the source. Here is what he said.

The N075 Al feels milder buy yet reallly efficient due to the black hardcoat anodized coating. The SS N075 is more efficient while maintaining smoothness.

The $300 razor is 17-4 SS P076, positive balde exposure with 0.76mm blade gap, low profile head, blade forward and completely different than the N075.

You would be well advised to read any of the H&S passaround reviews starting with my detailed technical discussions where you would have found that info and much more. Everything posted is reviewed by and cleared with Aji for technical accuracy and completeness prior to posting

The stainless steel baseplate N075 shares the exact dimensions of the aluminium baseplate. Differences in shave feel are attributable to the weight delta but mostly the properties of BaseKote treated Al. N stands for neutral blade exposure and 075 for gap in millimtres.

Aji has another razor series: P076 available in a much harder grade of SS, 17-4 as well as Ti (titanium) exhibiting dramatically different shave characteristics from the 2 N075 razors as well as each other.  The P stands for positive blade exposure and 076 the gap in millimetres. Both razors are highly polished of at least Wolfman levels.

Please read the passaround reviews, particularly the first review done For each razor in exhausting detail. Passarounds include Gillette Nacets as have found those to be well suited to all the H&S razors and have also included soaps from what we consider to be the best artisans available as a complement to what is hands down, one the the very best lines of razors available

N075

P076 17-4

P076 Ti

Comparing them to each other is the wrong perspective as the razors are intended for different audiences. From a shave characteristic perspective:

N075 for the person wanting a mid mild razor with solid efficiency - one of my absolute favourite razors at any pricepoint yet inexpensive. The Al has much less face feel ala a Wolfman 0,95 (and argue better) whilst the SS is for the person wanting the same shave quality but with much more feel. Prices start at $185

P076 for the person wanting a high mid efficient razor with more face feel. The Ti is nearly as mild feeling as the N075Al but much more efficient whereas the 17-4 has the same efficiency with lots of face feel. Prices start at $300

H&S N075 SS with Lupo aluminum cap/Halo Ti handle/Kai. The Lupo cap and Kai blade combine to add exposure without compromising comfort. I added one shim so that cap and plate clamp more tightly. Spectacular shave. [Image: 49d7f9ca83725c1e1f5a355dbcc64c24.jpg][Image: 3b4654fb825c265434831fd04c2796d8.jpg]

Great post! I’ve got a Al lupo kicking around, perhaps I’ll order the Al baseplate to try with it.

I tried the all aluminum combo last night for a head shave and while good this was much better. Blade was different so I'll go back and try again with the Kai. I may just prefer the middleweight heft of today's combination.

Note the post on the Lupo cap is quite short, the H&S plate rather tall, so handle choice will be limited.

I've now had 4 shaves with the pass around razor. The tl;dr for me: I'm probably going to buy this razor - maybe the only razor this year - and it will likely be my daily driver.

My first two shaves were with a new Wizamet blade and it was veerrrrrrry smooth. Both shaves were with the Cutting Edge soap that's included in the pass around. The soap is amazing and I really didn't feel much blade exposure in either two-pass shave. Results were excellent.

Yesterday's shave was another 2-pass shave, but it was 48 hours after my previous shave. I switched to a Nacet blade at Dan's suggestion. It cut everything down and I had a smooth result, but it was a little more uncomfortable than I'd remembered the Wizamet to be. I figured that this may be the result of having 2 days' growth.

Today I used the Nacet again for a 3-pass shave. Probably the closest shave with the razor yet (not surprising) but a little more blade feel with the Nacet. Tomorrow or Monday I'll run the Nacet on one side and the Wizamet on the other to really get a good comparison.

By the way, kudos to dfoulk for the Cutting Edge soap. It ticks all of the boxes for me and my face has felt amazing all week. I thought I'd like the Lemongrass and Lavender soap better since I love both of those notes, but I think I may actually like the Citrus and Wood even more.

I've been looking for a daily driver that was a little more efficient than my Timeless 0.68 but just as smooth. I think I may have found that in the N075. I'm also hoping to get a side-by-side comparison with my Timeless before I ship the razor off to the next person.

I am really glad to see all the N075 love. Aji deserves some props, IMO. FWIW, if anyone here opts to buy the full razor set with hardcoat Al baseplate, I have a polished SS baseplate listed for sale in BST (probably buried a couple pages back by now) if you want to have that as part of your stash.
