Hair Tonics and Creams

Looking to try some water based Pomade. Used some petro based as a kid, but can't remember if I liked it or not.
I'd appreciate some less expensive ones to try to see if I like it.

I'm AD military and have no choice but to keep my hair on the shorter side. The wife likes my a hair a little longer so I walk the edge of regs. I ride a bike and end up with a bad case of helmet head so I tend to keep hair product around.

Jeff, I got a haircut a couple of days ago and my barber finished off with some "product."  He knew I used both Groom & Clean and Murray's Super Light.  However, what he used was different.  It's called Working Wax by hairevolution and comes in a 4-oz. plastic jar.  It is water based and is, by the company's write-up, a medium hold.  It is suggested to go on dry or damp hair.  I put it on briskly towel dried hair and it worked well for me. The company makes other hair products, as well.  They are sold on their web site and in salons.  My barber told me where he got his so I was able to pick it up locally here in San Diego.  This is the description of the Working Wax on their web site: https://www.heproducts.com/products/working-wax.

Clubman, this might be something of interest to you. However, it is listed as costing $16.00 on their site and I paid $15.00 at a local salon so I'm not sure if it is in your price range.

I got it at a hair salon called Evolve in Hillcrest. (I live in North Park, just a short bus ride away.). The salon is on the south side of University Avenue between Fourth and Fifth Avenues.  This is not where I get my hair cut but my barber told me I could get it there.  The salon owner, Mario, took care of me and he was very nice and offered a few tips on application though I found just my normal routine for applying hair product worked fine.  Mario did say that if your hair gets mussed, recombing it helps redistribute the product.

I find, because it's water based, it washes out of my hair with no problems.  Also, my hair is short, though perhaps not as short as yours if it's a military cut, and a little goes a long way.  That 4-oz. jar should last me a reasonably long time.  If you should decide to get it, I'd love to know what you think.

Cool. Hillcrest is always a good bet for new restaurants and the wife and I find ourselves at the Bakery down there (or at Pt Loma), so...I'm sure I'll make it by there.

Excellent.  I love the whole Hillcrest/University Heights/North Park area and consider myself fortunate to live there.
