Hi Mohammed, would you care to elaborate on the scent notes of the "barbershop" element of After the Fire? This is such a widely varying category that a lot of soapers have different interpretations. I'm just curiously wondering what to expect! Thanks for any insight!

Hi wyze0ne I'll try, but I think this is one of those scents that even if I list every components of the scent, it'd still be hard to imagine wha the scent is

The scent is made up minute quantities of various lime essential oils, 2 lavenders, smidgens of cardamom, cedarwood, coumarin, geranium, guiacwood, oakmoss, an a herbal accord I made, tobacco absolute verbena mint 1%, pine needle 1%, dwarf pine 1%, cade, labdanum resin, guiacwood heart, guiacwood resin, and a couple of other resins. 4 super light musks, and a dash of clary sage.

As you see it has the elements of a barbershop are there, but I felt I wanted to create a conflict between the resins and the airy fresh barbershop. I hope you find it enjoyable.

Thank you for the very detailed description! I really enjoy complex scents and this one sounds very much so. I can't wait to try it and I'll let you know my thoughts here when I finally get to.

I finished the first of the Conifer focused scents. I'm super happy with it. For now, the name is Juniper & Orange, the scent notes are: Orange, Elemi, Galbanum, Juniper, Pine Needle, Fir Needle, Douglas Fir, Amyris, Cedarwood. It's a fresh, clean and airy scent.

Mohammad, I am tearing through the Mallard...it's got to be one of my all time favorite scents. It's available. Will this be the last of this particular Mallard (Choc, Sand, ginger) scent in a while? Just wondering if I should get a backup?

How does the Mallard scent compare to Leviathan?

To my nose it is very different but also very good

MaxP, I wrote that post carefully having used all of the above soaps extensively. Eufros Premium, CRSW Premium/Select, L&L and a few others are top tier soaps but I think GroomingDept is better. The results are in the shave and post shave results. Time, effort and ingredients. It's all there.

Without doubt, having spent a small fortune on Euro lux soaps, Grooming Dept is the best by far for my facial hair and hypersensitive skin.  Has all the best elements regarding glide and cushion of AdP, ABC, Xpec, CF&c but the post shave feel is unbelievable.  Collecting out of production soaps where I can.  Even the scents are growing on me (prefer simple soap scents).  Way to go!  Nothing against Euro soaps as they pay a living wage to workers BUT love buying made in US products!

My father had visited Simpson’s original workshop, Nimmer Mill in Somerset, and had gotten to know Stan Archer. He gave me some of those Somerset Simpson’s (which I still have) and that set the spark.

The fire was fully lit when I was a first year university student from Ireland in Scotland. I was down in London and walked into Trumpers on Curzon Street and I was off and running. That was 1991. So to answer your question 26 years now. Closing in on 50 in a few!

Mostly the 3T’s and the Italian soaps, Boellis for example until Mike and Michelle (Mike’s & Mystic) started making soaps in 2011-12.

I too have had over 150 soaps at one point. That was my hoarding phase. Variety, IMO, is not good for my skin. Switching razors and soap brands constantly just didn’t help my complexion as much as daily consistency.

GroomingDept provides the quality and skincare I’m after. The ingredients, formulation, shave and post results in the finest artisan skincare on the market.
