I was so close to getting Magnolia as well, but finally decided that 4 was enough to make sure I like the soap. Once I know I do, I'm sure I will get everything that he has and everything he comes out with.

I've never tried a vegan soap before. So I have no idea if I'm going to like it or not. From all I've read, I suspect I will like it. I hope so.

Str8 Shaver Oh yeah Smile

I'm happy to announce that the Italian Barber razorock and @"TheHandleBar" will carry Grooming Dept soaps.

I thought there was going to balms or toners but this is great news too Smile

Just saw this 11pm in Dingle, Ireland now. Got a quick order in I think but internet is crashing here.

Glad all the hard work has come to fruition. Night all! Smile

I'm curious if someone can compare the difference in the feel of a vegan soap to a Tallow soap. For example the best Tallow soap I have is the new version of CRSW. How does a vegan soap differ from that?

When my new soaps arrive, I will be able to tell for myself. But I would sure love to hear any thoughts in the meantime.

The non-tallow soaps tend to be 'lighter'-the lather is not quite as dense, and, although they can be very protective, the after-shave feel is definitely 'lighter' than the typical tallow soaps. My favorite non-tallows are the Italians: SMN, XPEC, and Nuàvia.

The tallow soaps tend to produce a thicker, glossier lather, feel a little 'heavier', and the post-shave feel is typically 'heavier'-more 'buttery'-than the non-tallows. My favorites are the B&M Gilssant, Barrister's Reserve, L&L, the CRSW, oh, I could go on.

From my experience, these Grooming Dept soaps in the original vegan formulation performs very much like a Tallow soap in that the lather is very thick, glossy, easy to lather in either a bowl or directly on the face, and the post-shave feel is extremely good, right up there with the best soaps in my den.

I was fortunate enough to have tested some of the new formulations of the Grooming Dept's soaps, both tallow and non-tallow.

What's interesting is that the non-tallow performed as the old formulation did-dense, glossy lather, easy to make, and yet very light feeling. Wonderful post-shave feel. I think the glide on the new formulation is a bit better too.

Now the tallow-this performed as you expect a tallow to perform, fairly thirsty, beautiful lather, BUT it didn't feel as 'heavy' as most of my tallow soaps. For example, the L&L Grooming soaps which are incredible tallow soaps, very forgiving, gorgeous lather, highly protective, just a great soap. The lather feels dense-and for some razors, I prefer it. It's also great when I don't have too much growth in the morning, and want extra protection. The post-shave feel is very nice, but definitely 'heavier' than the non-tallow soaps. Scott from L&L explains that it's the 'non-saponified' elements in the soap that produce the post-shave feel.

With the Grooming Dept tallow, although the lather felt like a good tallow soap should, it somehow was not as 'heavy' and the post-shave feel was not as heavy either, and I very much enjoyed that. Still a little more protective than the non-tallow, but nowhere near as heavy feeling as many artisan tallows.

So, I think what Mohammad has accomplished is producing a non-tallow that performs like a tallow, and a tallow that performs like a tallow, but with the lightness, glide and post shave from the best non-tallow soaps.

That's why I set a reminder on my phone this morning and grabbed these as soon as they became available.

That is a great report. Very helpful and inspiring. Can't wait to get mine here. It's coming a long way so probably be 2 weeks + after it is received in California.

Morning!

Very nice description Michael. That 'lighter' European feel is wonderful without any loss in performance. On the contrary the ingredient list and formulation is really unique and shines here. Sometimes that heavy tallow post shave is, just that, too heavy heading out the door. Best of both worlds!

These comments are really on point based on my experience as well. I ordered Yuzu, and I’m very excited about it!
