I was using my 1Zpresso JX this week and noticing that I was starting to get clumping in my grinds. I had been curious about how you would tell when  your hand grinder burrs needed replacing. I found the following page and increasing clumping was one of the signs. 1Zpresso mentions on their site that they are planning a burr replacement program. I am glad I have another grinder on hand to keep going. The site below also has some tips to make your burrs last as long as possible.

Hey David! I'll check out that link regarding burr replacement soon. I can't remember when I got my grinder, but it was either late 2008 or sometime in 2009. Cleaning the burrs is on the docket for Monday, if I remember to do it! I planned to buy the cheapest coffee (whole bean) that I could find in the Hannaford I work, as I have cleaning pellets that I use for the burrs, then grind a bit of coffee to remove all the pellet remnants. I discovered that my Hannaford carries mostly ground coffee and only had two options of store brand bags of whole bean coffee. For the $1.50 price difference, I went with the upscale store brand, "Nature's Promise" and came home with 12 oz of a medium roast that has no flavor description that I could find!



As you can see, I decided to try a brew or two. It really is quite tolerable, if not even good. I'll open a new bag of Jim's Organic Holiday blend for tomorrow. Thought I'd share this "discovery" with you, ha ha! By the way, the company I work for, Hannaford Supermarket and Pharmacy, is owned by the parent company of Food Lion and Giant Foods. Nature's Promise is available in all three chains. 

Second by the way: the coffee cup is actually real porcelain! It is from a company called Calamity Ware in Pittsburgh, and the cup is from the "Things Could Be Worse" collection. I loved the design because at a quick glance it looks the dinner sets many of us grew up with, but closer inspection shows calamitous chaos!

Thanks for sharing about the coffee! We have Food Lion and Giant Foods in our area, so that is good to know.
