Today, I repeated a brew with the same settings that originally leaked in my Varia FLO dripper with original beans and water temperature (changed the grind size). I did not have any leaks. So with two brews with no leaks, I conclude that I did not have the two parts of the dripper completely locked together. I think that allowed coffee to slowly seep between the two parts. I am going to chalk this up to user error and move on.

My brew today with the Varia FLO dripper (Kalita 185 filter: Medium 1 screen: Rogue Wave Coffee Roasters (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) - Panama Boquete) was not very flavorful, and feeling I have neglected my Timemore B75 for quite a while, I pulled it out for a second brew.

Second round: Timemore B75 with a Timemore filter and Rogue Wave Coffee Roasters (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) - Panama Boquete beans using the Coffee Chronicler B75 recipe. This had a light body but a pretty good mouth feel. I would like a little more flavor and a thicker body, but this was a decent cup of coffee with mild flavor.

Today I tried out the 'beverage' mode on my Acaia Perl (2021 version) scale.

With that mode, you go through a series of prompts and add, one by one, the brewing carafe, the dripper with filter, and the coffee.
Then the scale is set to start the timer as soon as you start pouring the water. When you are done either press the power button or pick up the dripper. The scale will stop the timer, tell you your final beverage weight/amount and also gives you the coffee to final beverage ratio that can be used as a measure of extraction.

I have had this scale for a while and never tried this mode as it sounded very complicated on paper, but in use, it was pretty easy.
I am hoping the ratio will help me with my overall brewing consistency.

That sounds pretty nifty! Like you, I find it a bit complicated as I read it. I can forget to rezero my scale AFTER I have started pouring water!

So far that setting has worked well (two brews in). The scale prompts you what to do next and you just do a long press on the tare button to go to the next step.

I have totally forgotten to rezero my scale after pouring water as well!

Enabling the auto timer when pouring water is very helpful. Anything I can automatically start is a good thing for the first cup of coffee in the morning!

I finished up all the coffees I had going except for the Bridge City Fell & Fair (maybe halfway through that. I am liking it, especially for work!). So I was digging through the box from Jim's Organic that came earlier in the summer. It should have two bags in it, but it had 4! I forgot that I bought 2 bags of Wicked Joe Coffee last month. And I found the last bag from Trade Coffee, which is a Limited Release from Atomic Coffee Roasters, Guatemala Union Cantinil! So after I read your post above, I opened it up and am enjoying a cup now! It is a medium-light roast, described as having notes of blood orange, vanilla buttercream, and round. I like it better than any lighter medium roast to date!

And I may start another bag, as one of the Wicked Joe roasts is Guatemala Huehuetenango, medium roast, described as Tropical Fruit, Caramel, Chocolate. https://www.wickedjoe.com/guatemalan-coffee

I already of Jim's Organic Guatemala on subscription, I like it that much!

Eric,

I am glad you liked the Bridge City Fell & Fair blend.
What a great find to have two more bags of coffee than you though you had!
Thanks for tip on the Atomic Coffee Roasters, Guatemala Union Cantinil and the Wicked Joe Guatemala Huehuetenango and the Jim's Organic Guatemala. I will definitely look them up.

The other coffee I almost ordered yesterday was Cala Coffee - Guatemala (medium roast) that had tasting notes of honey crisp apple, vanilla, and almond.

I keep a list of potential coffee purchases so when I run low and don't have time to research a new coffee, I can just pull from my list of candidates.

Today I finished up my Rogue Wave Coffee Roasters (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) - Panama Boquete beans and mixed in a few Jim's Organic Coffee (West Wareham, MA) - Papua New Guinea (Korofrigu) beans to fill out the dose for my recipe.

I stumbled upon a good Kalita Wave recipe for light roasts and have been using it the past day or two.
How to brew with Kalita Wave by Kurasu 2023 (3-Pour recipe)

Here is the video that give the background on that recipe:
Explanation of Kalita Wave 3-pour recipe!

The explanation video mentions a 4-pour recipe which I think is this one:

Tomorrow I will try out a bag of Atomic Coffee Roasters (Peabdy, MA) - Costa Rica La Pastora beans.

Did you enjoy these beans?

Yes I did!

I found that some brew methods/recipes would draw out different tasting notes.

Fellow Products Stagg XF: regular recipe with bloom - pulled out chocolate, caramel, grape and even floral notes.

Glass Hario V60-01 Switch: Coffee Chronicler recipe (hybrid recipe) - pulled out a nutty flavor and some floral notes.

Timemore B75: Coffee Chronicler B75 recipe - this pulled out fruit flavor, grapefruit, chocolate, cinnamon, apple pie (all at different cooling segments) and an amazing mouth feel. This was the best cup I had for these beans. Unfortunately I could not replicate this cup, so it must have been my pour that made this such a unique cup.

Glass April Brewer: 3-Pour More Contact Time recipe - this pulled fruit, chocolate and grape flavors in a tasty cup

Glass April Brewer: James Perry Coffee - Standard 3 Pour recipe - this pulled grape, chocolate and hazelnut flavors

Glass Kalita Wave 155: Project Barista 155 recipe - this pulled chocolate with a hint of berry (but chocolate was dominant)

Glass Kalita Wave 155: Kurasu 3-Pour recipe - this pulled a bold chocolate and fruit cocktail flavor

I tried it in a few other brewers with different recipes but the ones above had the best cups.
