Go to Pomade?

You all are making me curious- a long while back my barber used some American Crew Fiber. Seems pretty pedestrian based on some of those recommended but it works for me and my hair.

If I were to take the leap into a true pomade, in your expert opinions, anything similar? Low shine, strong hold? Thanks!

If you are looking for low shine and strong hold then you might want to try Suavecito Firm Hold. That stuff works really well. I use it and Tres Flores Pomade which works about the same as the suavecito. I was just looking to try something different. The best thing about these two are the price. Unfortunately a lot of the suggestions above are in the upper ranges of price. I just have a problem spending >$20 for something that will only last me a month. I guess I am just frugal.

kwsher, after my last haircut my barber used some of that and I liked it too. It's just the price for the amount you get is what turned me off from purchasing some. I like the low shine, high hold aspect as well so I'm interested in seeing others suggestions for alternatives too.

Vilhauer thanks much for the recommendation. I just saw that they sell a 32oz tub- that is some SERIOUS pomade!

Any other suggestions welcome- I am now on the hunt as my current tub is getting slim and will narrow it down before pulling the trigger. Thanks all.

I love Mickey Lee Soapworks' water-based pomade. Even better that the Grand Havana scent is stupid good.

How strong is the scent? I've been using Billy Jealousy Ruckus forming cream with good results.

gregcss It is definitely present, but not overwhelming. If I don't wear a fragrance or a strongly scented aftershave, then I can usually catch whiffs of it all day.

I go back and forth between water based and oil based. Right now I'm using Shiner Gold for my water based and if I go oil based, I love Schmeire's Wanderlust. I also have a lighter hair balm from Schmeire that I really like. I just got a tim of Shiner Clay in the mail today, so I'll be trying that out later.

My barber used this after my last cut. I just ran out of the Fiber tub so picked up the Layrite. The vanilla scent is pretty much great if you like vanilla and it washes out readily. Much cooler label too

Your welcome Kevin! I have pretty thick curly hair. Well I've only used Shear Revival and Lockhart's but not flagship pomade. Flagship Pomade have gotten rave reviews aside from the ones which keep my hair down. I usually use regular grease pomades but their water based ones are just as good. Another one which I've read that is a great water based pomade is Grim Grease.
