I have been the recipient of some outstanding generosity and good will within the wet shaving community at large over the last year and change. Soaps, splashes, balms, razors, blades, strops, creams, brushes, and sharpening stones have all come my way from many different Gentlemen, for many different reasons, and all have been well loved and used either in my den, or passed on again to another. I was informed last night that a box of Arkansas sharpening stones is heading my way, as well. Purely out of camaraderie and generosity, and the knowledge that the stones will be appreciated and well used at my house.
So, in an effort to continue that spirit of community and good will, I am offering a "Pay It Forward" of my own...
This is for straight razor shavers, or anyone looking to get started. This is open to anyone in the Continental US. Sorry to our brothers overseas, but I am not interested in shipping across the pond. It is simply too stressful for a guy like me.
This giveaway will include:
1 gently used Imperia la Roccia 12-15k slate finishing hone with slurry stone. This is a great finishing stone using water with or without slurry. Lapped and ready for finishing.
1 well used Naniwa Specialty Stone 1k, lapped and ready for service. A decent bevel setter, this is a very soft stone. It works, and will provide some quality use, but it is a well worn stone that I have moved on from, and you will want to replace soon, if you plan to set bevels on multiple razors, or very often.
1 gently used Naniwa Specialty Stone 5k, lapped and ready for service. The stone is fantastic for mid-range sharpening, and while used, will still provide several years of service.
1 vintage JR Torrey 5/8 hollow square point straight razor, shave ready(will be easily retouched with the above stones when the time comes)
1 rarely used Crown King Duro synthetic shaving brush
A couple of tubs of gently used soap. I have a couple tubs laying to the side that do not get used in my rotation. They are quality soaps, just not used as often as they should be.
Anything I can find laying around that is useful but not used in my den.
The rules are simple:
Post "I'm In", and you are in. When I feel like there are enough participants to keep it exciting(or that nobody else is interested in participating), I will use Random.org to select a winner at random. That's all.
Caveats to participation:
This gear is not worth much on the open market. If your plan is to win the PIF, and flip this gear on eBay, you're wasting your time. It's fantastic gear for a straight razor beginner, but not expensive or high end in any way.
Anything that you can't use...please give it to someone else. Obviously, I am trusting in Good Faith here, but please...if you win the PIF, and you don't like or can't use something...please give it away. Don't try to sell it. It's just good karma.
You MUST be CONUS. I will cover shipping anywhere in the continental United States. Please understand that I don't ship anything over seas. It is stressful for me, every time I have done it in the past, and that stress negates my "warm and fuzzy feelings" that I get from giving stuff away, so I do not want to involve overseas shipping. I apologize in advance, but I won't ship overseas, even if you offer to pay the shipping. It just stresses me out.
That's all there is to it. If you've ever wanted to get into straight razor shaving, but were afraid to try, this is your opportunity. Have Fun!!
