Fluffy’s Curmudgeon Corner

Last couple of shaves. 

Had to use my beloved Tabac since I forgot on Tuesday. Then did the groundhog day with it as I felt the inaugural run with the Fluffy Industries Brass Boar Brush should be with a iconic soap. 
The Shave Forge boar knot is decent. But did do a bit of shedding in the break in lathers I did with it the night before actual use. @DaveinKY may have felt the disturbance in the shave den force. It seems to be chilling out now and hanging on to the bristles as it should. Time will tell if the knot keeps its place in this handle. Or another may take its place. Next up the Brass Edition Badger Brush.

Keel over is right, Stay Hydrated, folks. Ken, I hope you get more days in the (hopefully) a/c cab rather than being a flagger. On these muggy, still days, man, I am glad my pale white body is in a/c, and I try not to complain if the a/c gets overworked and we approach 75F in the pharmacy! Makes my pits too damp, if that isn't TMI!!

Great shaves Ken and nice new brush edition to your den. Heat and humidity is crazy here today with advisories coming across my phone. Took the day off to get some yard work done and have some guys dropping 10 trees for me today because I decided it was too hot for me to do it as cheap as they bid it. Enjoy the weekend !

Think I saw Lucifer hanging out under a shade tree today, here in Maryland. He looked miserable. Truck thermometer said 99 on the way home. 
Had two more trees to cut up and clear off the roads at work.  Had some extra curricular activities to take care of after work. 
The wife has been whining about the upstairs toilet for a while now. So I got a new one lined up from a nearby plumbing supply distributor. Did some patented "I'm just a poor truck driver"  haggling and my new bestest buddy Dawn. Gave me a smoking deal. Billed under a commercial account and I paid cash. Saved me $150. Plus I think Dawn may have liked 'ol Fluffy. Nothing gets a broad more hot and bothered. Than a guy that knows his way around crappers and plumbing. 
Once home. Got my plumbers crack in gear and commenced ripping out the old throne. And installed the new one. The new type of wax seals and the braided lines that are now "standard" are very quick and easy to use. Took less than an hour for the swap. The shave den is now supercharged with an American Standard EcoFlush Pressure Assist Cadet chair height toilet.

Nice work, Ken! I have the same issue here, me wife wants a new throne in the master bathroom. I have the appropriate cloths to get my plumbers crack in gear, and knowing that it isn't too bad sounds like maybe I can do it! I know she has looked online at the AS line of crappers. And regular height, as her little legs dangle on the ADA types, and who needs their feet falling asleep when you are taking care of bidness?!

I have always thought swapping out plumbing fixtures to be fairly easy. Putting it in from scratch takes it to the next level. Sweating the copper, gluing up the returns. And roughing everything in correctly. Is the hard part.  But now when I do my side security job. And see all the new improvements that have been made. Shark Bite quick connects and the PVC supply setups. As well as the fixtures all go together like erector sets. They even have battery powered cutters for cutting the pvc pipe. Like a pruner, it makes effortless clean cuts. 
A lot of the finesse has been replaced with tech.  Makes me feel like an old timer thinking about all the time it took me to learn to properly solder copper. Make a good lead joint in cast iron pipes. And all the other things I learned from my Dad, Grandfather and my boss Hank Sr. that I did home improvement with. None of that stuff is in new construction. 
You tube is your friend Eric. There are how to vids on almost anything. I have faith in ya buddy. I never like to pay somebody else to do something I can figure out on my own. 
Saves me money to spend on shave stuff.

I'm with you Ken. Being a guy from sweating pipes, I can't wrap my mind around a water tight fit with a sharkbite that can spin freely around the pipe. My nose scent has been messed with from using pvc cleaner and glue for years. I know the pex is the rage but give me copper over cpvc and pex any day. Doing some volunteer work in New York I used for the fiirst time ProPress and it was cool including the tools to make the fittings but I still like a sweat fitting job. I'm even certified using Uponor Wirsbo pex. Now there's something that will blow your mind in how it works. A pipe with memory that the tool is an expander. Slide the fitting into the expanded pipe end and the pipe shrinks back to it's size on the fitting making the connection. That's it ! I would have never believe it if I didn't see the demonstration by the manufacturer in a class. Stuff is burst proof. Saw them make a fitting on both sides of a 3/4 inch pipe and blow compressed air into it until it went from white 3/4 inch pipe to clear and about 3 inch in diameter. Set it aside and continue explaining stuff. 5 minutes later pick up the same piece of pipe and it was back to it's normal size and color. Those Germans know there stuff. I do it but HATE plumbing with a passion !!!! Back to shaving
