I own several Wiborg, Shavemacs and other well known brushes.  A week and a half ago I purchased a Thater 4125 2 band, fan shape in 26mm.  I could not believe how soft this brush was however, still maintaining a nice backbone.  I liked so much I just took delivery of a 4125, 2 band, fan shape in 28mm.  Boy if you have not tried one of these you should. The knot on the 28mm looks darker than the 26mm because it is still wet.

My one Thater is a bulb. I'm not head over heels about it to be honest. I wonder if a fan shaped knot would make a difference?

Hard to say. I currently only have 16 brushes, mostly Wiborg and Sahvemac. All except 2 Simpsons are fan. I really like the difference. Maybe it is mind over matter but I feel more of the brush more without pushing the brush hard on my face. Fan shape also paints my face better. That's just my opinion. But the Thater is really an exceptional brush.

Is your bulb a 2 or 3 band? What is important for you in a badger brush when face lathering?

My 2 bulb shape brushes are Simpsons 3 band in best. I stopped face lathering some time ago. Now I only bowl lather and get a bowl full every time. When I said painting my face I mean using the brush like a paint brush to apply more lather after I have loaded my face.

Had the chance to try a bulb-shaped 4125/2 for a while, recently. It is truly something special, and as a face-latherer, I do wonder if I’d enjoy the fan-shaped version even more. (If that’s even possible.) The brush is on my wishlist, now…

I own a Thater as well. It is my favorite badger knot.

Today I used my new Thater 28mm for the first time. It is everything I hoped it would be. Very soft tips but good backbone. I went back to bowl lathering and it created a bowl full of incredible lather. It very easily it covered my face with that lather. Very happy I purchased it.
