Feather blades: Love/Hate ?

So, I had tried Feather before and never had a good experience with them, too sharp for me. However, I have one blade sitting around that I have been avoiding using since the fall. This morning's shave I used a vintage Gillette travel razor and thought, why not? I was thinking the razor would be very mild, and it is, so the sharpness of the Feather was offset by how mild the razor itself it. The result was a very impressive shave with no irritation! (but I did nick my chin )

That is how I use Feather blades. They improve the efficiency of my very mild razors...

My thinking is that the Feather prioritizes sharpness above all else, so no extra coating, slight dullness, or whatever other approaches other blades may take to smooth things out. So the Feather is unforgiving of anything you might not have dialed in just right: lather, angle, pressure, technique. There are no "training wheels" or lane-bumpers on the Feather, if you will. But when you've got your lather and technique down, these beasts give a friendly purr, and the sharpness becomes a virtue, reducing resistance and tugging, reducing the need for extra passes, and thus leading (contrary to initial impression) to LESS irritation and fewer weepers.

I can see that. The problem is when my technique gets sloppy because the razor is picking up all the slack lol. This happens with the S1 a lot. Switch to the S2 and a Feather and I get cut up due to my carelessness.

They're my go-to blades after the Gillette Sharp Edge (yellow box). I only "fear" them in their first use in my Edwin Jagger. After that they are milder but still have the sharpest edge out there. My face is fully covered with very hard whiskers and the Feathers are the ones that give me the closest shave. I use them whenever I want that specially close shave for special occasions. I would agree, though, that for the everyday shave they're not the extra stress and attention you have to pay to your shaving. I achieve very similar results with the Gillette Sharp Edge and find them much more forgiving. Money wise they're not worth it, either. I get five good shaves out of a Feather blade (and my whiskers are difficult to cope with) and three or four out of a Gillette "yellow".

Summing up, it's good to have them handy. But they're not for daily use.

The right side of my face loves them. The left side of my face (with the mole) hates them.

Does that make me sound two faced?

Love them in the AS-D2. Go figure, Feather makes a razor that their blades work perfectly in.

I started with Feather blades in a Feather Popular razor.  Blades where awesome in this VERY mild razor.  Upgraded in aggression with a ATT S2, Feathers really cut me up. Lol  Now a few months later, after refining technique and skills, revisited Feather blades.  So far I am impressed with the ease of a real real close shave with no cuts or irritation, however,  needs the utmost of care.  Maybe not worth the extensive concentration? My go to has been Astra SP, best for me in closeness and less irritation...

I'd say Feather blades are definitely not for beginners. I don't use it in aggressive razors either as they irritate my skin (my technique is not that good, I guess), but they are the sharpest blades, no doubt about it. Probably the only universal con of them are price, right?

Nope.  For me, the bloody things only last for two shaves and then drop dead.  There are too many other blades out there that give me superb shaves and last one heck of a lot longer.

When I first started DE shaving I gave Feather blades a try. Oh my, they tore my face up and punished my poor technique. Many months later, I gave them another go and discovered that I really like the blades. At this point Feather blades are the only DE blades I use. My normal routine with them is 3 shaves and out.

I have never enjoyed these blades. I find them overly sharp and they dull after two shaves.
I'll stick with my go-to blades.

What are your go to blades Celestino? I should know this by now, but I associate you with a certain go to soap and shea butter more than blades .
