I have used feather blades for years and love their sharpness tho I only get usually 2 shaves from them. Feathers come in the yellow or black packs and tho there is supposed to be no difference the black packs to me are inferior. I have put them in a razor and sometimes they were so bad I threw them away immediately. I never had a bad one from a yellow pack. this latest black pack came from amazon and was supposed to be yellow but it is a black pack and the ones I tried have all been bad so far. I have read more than once that they are the same blades whether yellow or black pack but in my experience this is not so. The black packs give tuggy rough shaves. Is all this just my imagination? john

Both the Feathers with the black label and those with the yellow label have the same markings on the blade, so most people seem to think they are the same blade in different packaging. Many times packaging differs in different regions of the world. I have not compared them side by side, so I really do not know for sure. Perhaps someone else who has compared them will know.

Your experience of two good shaves with them seems to be quite common. I cannot made it through a third shave without them becoming harsh on my face. I have read similar reports from others.

If you like Feather blades there are some other blades you might want to try. I quit using Feather blades because I can get equally good shaves from other blades that last me for twice as long as Feathers. They are also less expensive, so they are a much better value. The blades I prefer are: BIC Chrome Platinum, Gillette Nacet, 7 O'Clock Super Platinum (black), PermaSharp Super, and Personna Platinum Israeli Reds. Although not as well known, I also like Dorco Prime Platinum and SuperMax Blue Diamond blades. I have bulk pack of each of the blades listed. In contrast, I rarely use the few packs of Feather blades I have had for several years.

Who knows, really? I have tried both the yellow and black packs of Feather blades and found them to be similar. Nonetheless, I don't really like them as they don't last much longer than 3-4 shaves for me. Maybe, you got a bad batch. It is possible.
Good luck.

I bought a ton of them years ago, all yellow packs. I don't push any blade beyond 3 shaves. Life is too short to sacrifice comfort for the price of a blade.  Smile

i agree jimmyH i used them years ago on my gold plated merkur futur and loved them. i used that combination  for a solid year before moving on to other razors. talk about blade gap on that futur its settings from 1 to 6 was equal to 1.2 to 1.65 on a chart that i found. i mostly used below 3 and plenty close shaving but not smooth like a wolfman. i do use other blades nowadays but still like the feather.mostly i discard blade after 2 shaves.john

I think the black and yellow packs contain the same blades, but as mentioned, it could be a batch issue, even though Feather seems to be consistent in general. I must admit, it’s been years since I used a Feather from a black pack.

I can stretch a Feather blade to 8–10 shaves quite easily, but it should be noted that I only do 1–2 pass shaves. In my experience, the Feather is at its best around the second or third use. The first use can be nice, as well, but Feathers in particular seem to need some breaking in.

We all have different experiences don't we?
I was on a shave last week with a third use feather and it was pulling and tugging.
I put a brand new feather blade in and went into nice cutting action without that tugging, who would have thought it.
Two shaves is not much on the blade but if it happens that way I guess it does.
I would assume the yellow and the black packages are the same and that's  what I was told. Can't say that I've had pack of each to do a side by side.

Feather Blades: I tried them again . And I was amazed that 1 blade would last for 7 shaves.
These blades I would recommend to anyone.

I hand stropped, about 20 stroke count for each side and it was a slightly different shave.
I've done a 10 count and didn't see much difference.
Any others with experience, suggestions at this?
