Actually arrived several days ago, but wanted to set up its first use so that a comparison could be made v. the TECH triangular slot in my stable. Not much to report that hasn't been said many times over about this nicely put together razor. With a fresh Crystal blade in it (same configuration as the last use of my TECH), it provided a wonderfully smooth shave. As reported by others, a shave that seemed not to have a blade in the razor. The smoothest shaver of any of my vintage Gillettes including the TECH (but not by much).

Efficiency quite like the TECH to the point that I can detect no difference. Except for the tiny bit more smoothness, I can not detect any differences in the two razors. A case might be made for the AS-D2 being slightly more maneuverable in the tight spots, but that might be me enthusing over a new razor. To say that the TECH acquits itself nicely when matched against this good looking new kid in the cabinet would be entirely true. Likewise, for the AS-D2 to measure up well against a proven, if old, TECH is high praise, indeed.

After this blade has run its course, I'll try the AS-D2 with its recommended Feather blade to see if that pairing is more optimal as others have said. No complaints; its a solid, pleasure to use razor which takes its rightful place in my rotation.

Nice overview beamon and look forward to your ongoing thoughts. I doubt they will change as I also find the AS-D2 to be a very efficient shaver and the quality is top notch as well.

As a fat handle, triangular slot TECH, according to the chart that I have, Jeff, should make it between '39 and '45.

Second shave with subject razor. Reversed things today. Same Crystal blade (2nd use) but did the cold shave bit. Started with dry face, three cold water rinses, face lathered with cold water produced lather, usual 2 pass shave with a little buffing, alum block applied and allowed to remain on while razor, brush and sink were cleaned. Removed alum with cold rinse, then final rinsed twice with HOT Water! Witchhazel followed by Bay Rum AS completed the operation.

Result: Better than the first use of the Feather AS-D2. Solid DFS+ shave! I might have used an extra minute on today's shave by concentrating a bit more and making the strokes more deliberately aimed at my various grain directions. The alum block disclosed very little; a small patch of irritation on my lower right neck area and that was it! The Crystal blade continues to impress. I purchased 2 of them in a package of blades from tryablade.com for testing. The first one performed very well in a Fatboy for three shaves and now this one doing even better in the AS-D2 for two shaves, so far.

The overall experience with the AS-D2 today... SMOOOOTH!

Finished the 4th shave with the Feather AS-D2 today with the Crystal blade. Needless to say, the AS-D2 stays! I binned the blade, but not because I had to. It's just that I have some other blades to evaluate in the AS-D2 It felt as if it could have gone on for some unknown time with it. Twas a good combination - the AS-D2 and the Crystal blade. Will look for a source to bring 50-100 into stock for future use. Any suggestions for a vendor?

IIRC, Crystal blades are the same as the Israeli made Personna Reds (platinum).
