Feather Artist Club Super Razor (ACSR)

I have an SS kamisori, but tempted to pick up one of these SR also in Kamisori flavor. I dig the handle and grip on the SR. Enough difference to make it worth it? Dx is other option I’m contemplating.

Has anyone tried the Feather SR? Doesn’t seem to be much info out there yet. Geofatboy has a YouTube video but that’s about all.

There are some user reviews over at B&B. The reviews are what you'd expect. Clearly sits (and shaves) between the SS and DX razors. Sounds like those who purchased it were first-time Feather shavette buyers or those looking to step up from an SS, and I recall they all sounded pretty happy.

I had my Feather SR show up today. First time using a shavette but have used a straight before. I loaded a Kai Guarded blade and proceeded with a wonderful shave.

I have been wanting to try straights for some time and decided to start with a shavette, and about 3 weeks ago got the SR in the mail. I can't compare it to a straight razor so I'll be no help there, but I like the weight and the quality seems good. I'm just learning at this point, getting more proficient, and will buy a straight razor and invest in all of the supplementary equipment after I've done a full assessment.

I trialed with the Essence by Tedalus, which is VERY similar to a straight razor experience, just that the head is shorter and you can really choke up on the razor (like choking up on the bat), which actually makes it a great introduction to straight razor shaving. Just for a very high price.

I enjoyed it so much and it gave me confidence in making the move. I now have two shaves with a real straight razor and have honing stones and a strop coming in the mail.

Thanks for the advice. I'm a little apprehensive about honing, but will have to check Youtube before I make the move!

I saw GeoFatboy use this and am intrigued. But I have the Feather Artist Club folding and kamisori-style shavette and the Feather DX as well as a Kai kamisori-style shavette. It looks to me like they rounded the edge a bit and made the DX more like the less expensive Artist Club and added jimps. I'm very tempted but I have so many Feather shavettes I'll stick to what I've got. 

As far as the Feather Super, I agree that this feels very much like a straight razor. The blade is thicker and wider, I think, and easier to use than the regular Feather, which is fine but so easy to cut yourself with. 

I also like the Schick blades but usually I use the Kai blade with the guard. I can relax and enjoy the shave more. Sometimes I want the challenge of having to pay attention to every second of the shave. But more often I want the pleasure of a straight-style shave without worrying about irritation, nicks, weepers, etc. I've gotten good with the Feather and a straight but that's because I pay close attention. Also, I find that these Artist Club blades can irritate my face if I use them in a Feather style razor every day. 

Anyway, I'm very eager to hear the opinions of those who use the new Feather and I always love reading opinions about the Feather-style blades. One shaver swears by the Kai Captain Mild, another says it cut his face, stole his car, and ran off with his daughter. Another shaver loves the Feather Super, yet another claims it turned his face into a sight worthy of Mike Myers. Then there are the shavers who view the blades with guards as akin to riding a bike with training wheels. 

One of the best things about this is that one size doesn't fit all. I love the different opinions.
