favorite slants

I've been following the RazoRock Wunderbar's progress on instagram and its one I will most likely try to acquire.  Joe is assuring everyone that its going to be made in production quantities and that they'll keep stocking them until everyone who wants one has one.  I trust Joe but the marketplace is a fickle beast so who knows if they will actually be easily obtained.  

I have the ikon bamboo handle in black uberglide coating on my 102 and it looks cool.

Me too [Instagram]! I really like the feel of the Bamboo handle and the uberglide is uber cool looking. I used the straight stainless version this morning on the Rake in fact!

I have never used a slant before, but the RazoRock Wunderbar has piqued my interest. I'll probably pick that one up when it comes out.

Ive only ever used the older style Merkur 37c, but Ibloved it while I had. Very consistently smooth and close. It has since been traded, butvit was my second favorite razor while in my den...

I have the newer Merkur 37c (milder than the more aggressive earlier version). I use the PolySilver blades with it and totally have it dialed in. I think this is a great value razor. I get more bbs shaves with this than the Blackbird razor, which costs more than 2x as much. Thought about upgrading to the ATT slant at one point, then decided the performance of the 37c was so good that the money would be better spent on software.

I've been pondering a slant...seems like Merkur 37c might be a good / cost effective option, but lots of votes for the ATT S1/S2 combo for a bit more money. I'll have to keep my eyes on the RazoRock Wunderbar. Thanks for all the opinions guys!

I will throw the new Fine slant into the mix. This lightweight is a great performer and makes for a fine travel razor, and for thirty bucks it's hard to go wrong.

Isn't that the daddy of all Slants these days?

I can't really offer an opinion as I don't own a slant currently. I have used the Merkur 37c and RazoRock Stealth Slant both of which I enjoyed for different reasons.

I don't mind having a few different options if the prices are reasonable.  spices things up some....  

As a great and rather affordable option, you might want to pick up an ATT S1. The shaving feel is totally different than the S2, and you'd only need the base plate since you already have the ATT slant top cap!

I've been pondering getting the S1 base plate, but at $74, it might need to wait a little bit. we'll see though..

I have the ikon shavecraft #102 and its a really nice, comfortable yet efficient razor - I've looked at other slants but I just can't imagine them being as nice/nicer than the 102. My experience is admittedly limited as the only other slant I tried ever so briefly very early in my wet shaving journey was the Merkur sledgehammer (39C?) and it was, for me a bit frightening. My technique was at least partially to blame I'm sure but its not an experience I'd have looked forward to every morning. I returned it to the fellow who had given it to me - he'd had a similar experience with it. I've read several reviews of the fine plastic slant and some people seem to like it so that would be a relatively cheap experiment. I'm not really interested in the plastic razor mostly because I like finely crafted tools like the Wolfman, why would I put a cheap plastic toy next to him? Let us know what you settle on and how you like it.

I forgot about the ikon slants..I'll need to check some of those out.

Good advice thus far... bang for buck, the 102 is a very solid option per Marko 's comment. Plus with the aluminum head, it is somewhat unique.

If you want something a bit more aggressive the iKon B1 slant is a good SS option. Careful though, kitty has claws.

The one I am waiting on is the Razorock Wunderbar which the last I saw should be shipping in about a month. No idea on price point but it appears to combine some of the qualities of a Black Mamba with a slant config.

I'm interested in the wunderbar, if the price is right.

for $30, I'll more than likely give the fine slant a try. I used to have one of the white bakelite slants with the red case from a few years ago that sold like the world was ending tomorrow. I never used it before selling it off...I regret doing that!

If you keep an eye on the forums, the ATT base plates are occasionally sold for less than retail. I've bought a couple of mine for between $50-60.

On the Fine slant, check out the thread that we have here on DFS. I had a chance to hold one at a shaving meet up and it felt like a toy since it was very lightweight and didn't seem to have the best build quality. It might shave well, but the feel was bothersome to me.

True. But I wasn't expecting it to feel heavy, just substantial and well built (like a nice plastic item vs. an army man toy). I didn't like the bits of uncut plastic that were left over in parts. Simply not my preference.
