Favorite Single Edge blade?

I have decided to give single edge razors another try. I had tried before with different models, but never had any luck. I am wondering if maybe the blades I was using were to blame. The only ones I can remember trying were the Gems you can buy at CVS and Treets. I was wondering if there were any others that you gents may have tried and if so where did you purchase them.

Those would be carbon steel that you tried. Depending on turn over at the store they could have been micro rusted and therefore not shave worthy.

They'll be GEM SS ptfe coated. Typically they get better with about 3-4 shaves on the blade, or one could hand strop it. Typically I get an easy 20 shaves from one and I've used one for more than 30 shaves quite a few times. My current blade has 27 comfortable shaves on it (I just checked).

Definitely try the PTFE single edge blades. I highly recommend them compared to the others you mention. Try a Blade carries them and you can purchase as many, or as few, as you would like.

Freddy, Aren't the Gem Stainless Steel Blades that I buy at my local Bi-Mart the same blade?. I believe they have the PTFE coating on them, and the shave is comfortable and smooth. They are sold in a black 10-pack dispenser.

To be honest, Clayton, I don't know.  I have been able to get the GEM Blue Star SE blades (as seen here) in a drugstore but didn't think they had the PTFE coating, though I could be wrong on that point.  I find the PTFE blades tend to give me smoother more comfortable shaves.

Yeah, the Blue Star carbon blades can be a little rough.

I know I'm in the minority here, since I don't use a blade more than three times. But I really like those coated GEM's.

I mostly use my Cobras so I use Kai Mild and love them.
