My favourite vintage OC (that I've tried) is the LC New. Kinda' mild-to-moderate.
For modern OC I like the RazoRock "SLOC". Maybe just a tad milder than the LC New.
A bargain if you buy just the head, now at CAD$8.29
bohica About handles - Nearly all modern non-adjustable three-piece razors have an M5 thread, which is close enough to the #10-32(SAE) threads that Gillette used that you can mix and match old and new heads and handles between different brands. I have a Soviet-era Czech-made aluminum Soluna handle that works on any head too. I used it with a Goodwill head until I bought a brass repro handle. At worst, if the tapped hole in the handle isn't deep enough, you can always add a small flat brass washer or two.
Exceptions would be the M4.5 that Fatip uses (or so I read) and odd-ball ones like the Gillette Old Style and the Merkurs with the extra-long screws.
Beyond the thread compatibility, you'd only have to think about the relative (head vs. handle) weights and handle length to get a good balance. A big stainless steel head on a short aluminum handle just would not work for me, neither would a 110 mm stainless handle on a lighter zamak head.
It'll work, but it feels weird.
