And just because something looks the same or similar, doesn't mean it is. A 3D copy is different from separate design and testing. Apparently, Blackland Razors, also tried to develop an AC style SE, but found there were only very limited ways of changing the visual design, so he gave it up. But those are just visual cues, not what is under the hood. Also, Executive Shaving is not buying the same razor from the same plant in Pakistan as Mongoose. They are doing all the design and manufacturing themselves. This, I appreciate.

Are you saying that Mongoose Razors simply buy a razor that is made in Pakistan and pass it off as their own? That statement confused me and I'd appreciate some clarification there. Thanks in advance.

Not at all, Brian. I have a lot of respect for Mongoose, all their hard work and everything they've brought to the world of wet shaving.

I was responding to an accusation made against me that I was supporting an artisan design, the Executive Shaving SE, when they were merely a copy of Mongoose. My point was that the Executive Shaving SE is an original design, and so is Mongoose. Both should be respected as such.

But I had argued at length, in another thread, that there are vendors that take 'cheap knockoff' designs of razors that other vendors also sell (literally exact copies of the same razor) and put their own label on it, tricking people into thinking the razor is an original design made by that vendor. That thread is here: http://damnfineshave.com/thread-differen...ad-handles

To be clear, this unethical rebranding trick is not what either the Mongoose or the Executive Shaving SE is about, and I have the utmost respect for both designs.

I'm curious as to what can be drastically different. Forgive me if I sounded accusing or anything similar, but it just looked identical to the mongoose, down to the oval/elongated hole in the base plate. I've tried finding anything about this razor, but since I don't have a Facebook account I didn't find anything at all, not even the pictures in your post, so thanks for any information.
Since we now have the mongoose, and maybe falcon, we have a safety razor for AC blades. Beside giving a better price point or availability, I don't see what can be drastically different. That's why I'm excited about what Stan (ATT) is planning. IMO, if you want a milder shave, use the right AC blade that works for you. If you want a more aggressive shave, you can always go all the way to the different shavettes that use the AC blades from Feather (~60$ on Amazon) or any of the knock offs.
Diversity is always good for the customers, but since the design can't be improved/altered that much (as stated here again), why not change anything else, like making it a real injector and not a 3 piece? That's actually the easiest method of inserting a blade for me using the feather non folding razor. There's this plastic little rod that sticks from the cartridge that helps you align it with the razor. Again, availability and price are other factors that could make a difference.

Wow.... I just wasted 30 minutes of my life reading that thread

Sorry about that... wyze0ne wanted to bring the debate to this thread, and SharpSpine requested clarification. Hopefully we can now get back on topic here.

I agree that designing an AC SE can be difficult if you want it to be truly unique and not resemble anything on the market. When designing The General, I wanted to ensure two things:

1. It did not resemble a Mongoose.
2. It was unique and set itself apart from anything currently on the market.

I believe we accomplished that with the design.

I do see what looks like a rounded top cap on the Executive SE. Looking forward to watching this progress through production.

Regards,

Kyle

Sorry! Completely forgot to mention your razor! It looks stunning btw. Very interested in your take on the AC blades.

The General is the other reason I stopped designing one. Can't wait for that thing! Let me pay you already.

Of course, that doesn't mean they won't differ in performance. I personally just don't find anything fun in designing something so similar to another product so I decided not to. I don't think it's wrong to do so, but it is kind of boring.

is Blackland Razors going to be the first to market with a head that'll accept a GEM blade, either spined or despined?  Tongue

The first? I'm not sure. But it's on my mind.
