I was combing the local antique stores in Portland, Oregon today and came across a Ever-Ready 200 brush.   The handle looked great but the old boar knot stank and needed to come out.

After I paid the lady $15 and took it home, I proceeded to remove the knot.  Steaming didn’t work so I went at it with scissors, a dremel and the knife on my leatherman.  The knot eventually came out and I then noticed these brushes are hollow. I prefer a solid and heavier handle so I filled the empty space with lead bird shot and then epoxied a new knot in place.  I just happened to have a extra Oumo 22mm 3-band silvertip badger knot that fit perfectly.  The lead shot makes it feel more substantial and more like a modern solid resin handle. Below is a photo next to my two 26mm Heritage Collection Reproductions.
