- Don’t over-hydrate. That’s the overarching rule. Once there is a well-aerated lather with lots of visible, little bubbles, it’s over-hydrated and its performance is gone.

- Using a 1/4 teaspoon measuring spoon, scoop about 2/3 spoonful and spread it thinly across the bottom of a shaving bowl with pads of fingers.

- Wet two fingers with warm water and spread a thin layer of water across the top of the soap in the bowl. Just what’s on my fingertips. Shower or wait 5 minutes.

- Wet my synthetic brush and shake so it’s just beyond damp. Paint back and forth strokes in the bowl in all directions until the lather is pasty.

- Dip the very tips of the brush to get just a bit of water, and mix into the paste using the back and forth strokes (I also swirl but try to limit that so I don’t twist the bristles too much). Repeat a few times until the lather is like thick yogurt with a bit of a sheen to its surface.

- Swirl the brush to get as much lather out of the bowl as possible, using my finger to get any remaining from the bowl onto the brush, and paint on face. If it’s still pasty and without sheen, dip brush tips in water and mix that tiny bit of water into the lather on my face.

- Shave, and get lather for the next passes from the brush.

- If the lather is not thick and rich and fit for royalty, use a bit more soap next time.

- If the lather is too thin or over-hydrated, use less water next time (or more soap).
Excellent summation here. I do something very similar and achieve stupendous results nearly every time. I use a badger brush, though, and some work better than others, albeit in a nuanced manner.

Dragonsbeard … Safi looks great but on the pricey side. Have you thought about selling sample sized versions?

Thanks!

How do you like that brush? I've been considering one of those for awhile.

Hello ALI

I did offer the 1 oz size back a couple of years ago but the price on that size worked out to be if I remember correctly between $36 and $38.  I realize that the Vanilla Safi is not inexpensive but  honestly if I didn’t make my own Madagascar Vanilla Bean Infusion and I only used the two other natural Vanilla aromatics that are in the blend which is the Vanilla Absolute and the Vanilla C02 Extract the price would at least be double of the current price. I do everything I can to keep the price down especially on the higher priced natural Aromatics like the Vanilla, Tonka Bean and Rose for example by using some different processes like infusions, Hydrosols and natural Distillates. I haven’t changed the price on any of the sizes and in fact the 4 oz is now a 4.5 oz and I actually do a heavier fill so it’s about 4.7 to 4.8 oz on average and the same with the 7.5 oz as that averages about 7.75 oz.  Someone told me recently that The Razor Company will sell a sample of anything. Not sure how that works but I’ve got to give Jason a call and find out.

Below in the photo you’ll see all the sizes that we offered on the first run of it which did include what we called the Travel size and the Limited Edition custom bowl.

Thank you for the excellent question!

Thanks Dragonsbeard - that makes sense. I am hearing this one is a winner and well worth the price!

So I had made this a few months ago but was waiting to release it once the weather had warmed up. About 10 days ago I realized we had only a few of the Skin Food Splash labels left so had to hold out till they came in. Well they are here and I’m going to post them up on the website on Monday. I’ve also added the Skin Food Lotion as I had some requests for it in this scent. For those not familiar with ShaveMD it’s a tribute to an old friend of mine and a well respected member on here who passed away way too young. I made this blend for him as his asthma which had since a kid got worse with age and after he got Covid it got much worse and he could only tolerate either Unscented or Lavender Supreme and wanted a summer scent that wouldn’t trigger his asthma. Unfortunately Mark only got to use the soap one time and I’ll never forget the phone call I got after that first use. He said it smells like Ginger Ale and I love it and it doesn’t affect my asthma. That made me really happy as it was just a guess on my part as to what scent to make him.  Mark and I were good friends and although we lived about 5 hrs from each other we’d talk at least 4 or 5 times a week and texted each other quite often. He knew a lot about razors and was a tester for many different brands we are all familiar with. A good friend missed.

ShaveMD is a simple blend of Lemon, Lime, Ginger with  just a very tiny bit of Spearmint Essential Oils.  Some say it smells like Ginger Ale as Mark described it while others say it’s more like 7 Up. Anyway it’s a simple clean refreshing Aroma that works well in warm weather. So again it will be available on Monday.

Great shaves!

This will include all the products seen in the collection photo. The Shave Soap will be available in both the 7.5 oz and the 4.5 oz sizes. I will say there are not many 7.5 oz jars left so if you’re interested in one of those you can email me and I will send you a link or just wait for the release.

Thank you all for your support!

Just a quick reminder that the complete Collection of Vanilla Safi products are now available on the ETHOS website and the vendors will have what they have up today to from what I’ve been told. So check with your vendor.

Best regards

Frank
