After spending some time in the resin world, I had the chance to get back to a couple of exceptional pieces of wood that resulted in the two brushes shown below.  They have just been listed and are available on my site at www.eliterazor.com

Teak Burl (24 - 26mm)  I don't get really well figured Teak very often and this piece has wonderful figure throughout.

Black Locust Burl (24 - 26mm)
Black Locust burl grows in the Southeastern United States.  Black Locust is a major honey plant in the eastern US, and has been planted in European countries. In many European countries, it is the source of the renowned Acacia honey.  The wood is extremely hard, being one of the hardest woods in Northern America. It is very resistant to rot, and durable, making it prized for furniture, flooring, paneling, fence posts, and small watercraft. Black locust is highly valued as firewood for wood-burning stoves; it burns slowly, with little visible flame or smoke, and has a higher heat content than any other species that grows widely in the Eastern United States, comparable to the heat content of coal.

I just finished up a couple of really nice brushes and have just listed them on my site at www.eliterazor.com.

Tourmaline Laced Quartz set - (24 - 26mm)

This is a "build your own" type of set.  The brush handle is shown with a 24mm Standard Finest knot for presentation purposes. It may be adjusted to accept a 26mm knot.  The razor handle is shown fit to a Merkur 38C.

This matched set features a handcrafted razor handle, brush handle and stand by Robert Quinn. All pieces are from the same block of Tourmaline Laced Quartz, which may be found in mountainous areas throughout the United States, but predominately in the northern Sierra Nevada area.   Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth’s crust, after Feldspar.  Quartz can appear in many colors from bright purple to milky white to absolutely clear.  Roman naturalist Pliny the Elder, believed Quartz to be water ice, permanently frozen after great lengths of time. (The word “crystal” comes from the Greek word for purity.)  He supported this idea by saying that Quartz is found near glaciers in the Alps, but not on volcanic mountains.

This set will be delivered with the finished razor of your choice, either a Merkur 34C, Merkur 38C, Mach 3, Fusion or a 3-piece razor with a Merkur, Edwin Jagger or Muhle head.

Malachite (24 - 26mm)

Amboyna Burl (24 - 26mm)  This is an outstanding piece of Gallery Grade Plus wood.

So I just started pouring my own resin. I've done 2 and 3 color combinations and they came out OK. I guess I though if 3 was OK, 6 would be great. I'm getting mixed reviews around the house and I sure would appreciate your thoughts about my first brush of many colors.

Thanks, Bob

Ancient Kauri (24mm)

Ancient Kauri is the World’s oldest workable wood.  New Zealand native Kauri trees that fell thousands of years ago are known simply as Ancient Kauri. The trees have been buried and preserved underground in swamps for more than 45,000 years.  Numerous independent radio carbon dating by world experts confirm that at more than 45,000 years old, the buried Ancient Kauri recovered in the far north of New Zealand is among the oldest of all Ancient Kauri found and certainly the oldest workable wood in the world… by a long, long way.  Ancient Kauri pre-dates the migration of Neanderthal man into North America, the hunt for mammoths and cave paintings in Europe. The Kauri forest was already buried some 25,000 years before the on-set of the last Ice Age giving scientists an important insight into Earths climatic past.
