I have been working on a number of custom orders for brushes and razor handles, but I did have some time to build a couple of exceptionally nice pens.

These pens are made of the highest quality materials available and may be configured as either Rollerball or Fountain pens prior to shipping.  They will be delivered in a beautiful glass-topped display/presentation case and would be a very special gift this Christmas.

The pens shown below are available at www.eliterazor.com

Carbon and Steel - This is really Damascus Steel, but Paypal feels compelled to place a hold on anything with "Damascus" in the name.  Traditional Damascus Steel is a type of steel alloy that is both hard and flexible, a combination that made it ideal for the building of swords. It is said that when Damascus-made swords were first encountered by Ottomans during the Crusades, it garnered an almost mythical reputation—a Damascus steel blade was said to be able to cut a piece of silk in half as it fell to the ground, as well as being able to chop through normal blades, or even rock, without losing its sharp edge.

Carbon and Silver Mokume-Gane - Mokume-Gane (pronounced Moe-koo-may Gah-nay) is the ancient Japanese metal working technique where layers of contrasting color metals such as copper, brass, nickel silver, gold, and silver are fusion welded with very high heat and pressure into one solid block of metal.  Traditional Mokume-Gane is extremely rare and sells for hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars for a very small quantity.  The name “Mokume Gane” refers to the visual appearance of a pattern in metal approximating that of wood. “Mokume” literally means “wood eye”, which would be used to describe a highly figured wood grain. “Gane” translates as metal. So, in English, “wood grain metal” is a near-literal translation.

I have just added several new brushes to my site at www.eliterazor.com.

In an effort to help identify specific handle shapes for custom orders, I have begun assigning a name to each shape.  In a nod to my other passion, they will all carry names of guitars.  The first will be the "Taylor" (shown below) and I will be putting together a gallery on my website of the various shapes I build.  I hope to have the gallery completed over the next couple of weeks.

Taylor - The handles are built from imported European resin and are, from left to right, Disco, Candy Stripe and Moonjava.  They are all shown with a 24mm knot, but can be opened up to accept a 26mm knot.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and I wish you a happy New Year.

I have just added quite a few new brushes to my site at www.eliterazor.com, as well as added a category under Shaving Brushes that shows many of the brush shapes I regularly build.  Please let me know if I can build a brush for you.

In addition to the recently listed handles, I was also able to get a few new brushes completed.  All are shown with a 24mm knot set to a 50mm loft, however the Amber and the Walnut can be adjusted to accept a 26mm knot.

The two brushes shown below have just been listed on my site at www.eliterazor.com.

Amboyna Burl - Amboyna burl is found in Indonesia, especially on the Andaman group of islands.  Amboyna burl is one of the rarest & most expensive woods in the world.  The burly part of the log is often very small, yielding only wood in small dimensions.  The color ranges from deep yellow orange to deep red and after finishing Amboyna burl reveals a depth & liveliness in color like found in no other.  Amboyna burl was a popular, frequently used wood in the Jugendstil epoch in the twenties. It was also the first burl wood to be used by Rolls Royce for dashboards.

Old Growth Poplar - Poplar gained wide usage for furniture framing and drawers in the early part of the twentieth century. Today, it often is used for mouldings and millwork, boxes, pallets and shipping crates, as well as the popular choice of wood for chopsticks.  Early renaissance Italian painters used Poplar as the base for their panel paintings.  The Mona Lisa is painted on a Poplar panel.  This piece of wood was recovered during the deconstruction of the Acworth Train Depot, which was built in 1840, and is over 175 years old.

Acworth Train Depot
The City of Acworth lies just north of Atlanta, nestled in the North Georgia foothills and was part of the Cherokee Nation until 1831. The community grew around a water station along the Western and Atlantic Railroad that was built in 1840 and grew to be the largest freight station between Savannah and Chattanooga for many years.  The wood from the train depot is primarily Longleaf Pine, with several trim pieces made of Poplar.
