In is my observation that most wet shavers are more concerned about what is in the box or bottle than the packaging itself.

As an example, you can purchase King C Gillette platinum razor blades made in China but packaged in the USA in a fancy box for $6.99/10 blades or you can purchase 100 identical blades packaged in a nondescript box for $15.94. That says the 10 blades are worth $1.59 and the packaging is worth $5.40. Since the fancy package likely goes right in the trash bin or recycle container, the retail package is a very poor value.

Let's say for example that your favorite artisan is selling aftershave for $25. Would you be willing to pay an extra $10 for fancy bottle? Probably not. However, if that same $25 bottle of aftershave arrived packaged in a cheap plastic bottle or had a label printed on an inkjet printer, you might think that you overpaid.

On the other hand, if you purchased a $400 bottle of EDP, you would expect it to come in an impressive bottle.

It is all a matter of marketing and knowing your customer base.

Again, I will refrain from comment until some votes are in.

Oh, one more thing about the presumption, as DanLaw points out: a lot of current "artisan" aftershaves come in completely unremarkable bottles (but nice labels). Is that an indication that artisans know that we are decanting into fancy Chiloula bottles?

In my opinion ,artisans who are dishing out aftershaves with quality ingredients and also have better looking bottles are offering more to their customers in terms of price to quality and I would personally like to buy more from them.

Two artisans that come to my mind are M&M and Hazelet's Apothecary . I have at some point interacted with both of them for my orders and found them absolutely amazing. Top of the notch customer service , amazing label designs and good stuff inside.

OK

As far as AS bottles, the standard (such as used by B&M and almost everybody) are quite fine as long as glass - nothing spectacular to gaze upon but they are very ergonomic and take minimal space.

Less than partial to the squared off standard 2Oz ETHOS as they just don't fit my hand well (same can be stated of Proraso and such oblong rounded bottles)

BUT the cylindrical ETHOS 4 Oz (especially in frosted) are my absolute favourite followed by ABC. C&S would be there too but for the tiny opening.

Oooh......going to have to check out the frosted bottles.

The frost effect also aids wet grip
