So this is for a review for a brush accessory not a brush. But it can make a great different in your brushes and how you perform. This isn't the only brush cleaner more artisans are offering brush cleaners now and there are some out there for makeup brushes but essentially the same thing. I went with this one because I like the products that Scott makes and this came in a tub where others are loose pucks or bars. It is a bit more expensive but shipping for me was less than others.
For those not aware of what this product is or does well it cleans the brush from build up and scent as well. It consists of 4 ingredients: Coconut oil, water, potassium hydroxide and tetrasodium edta. The last being a chelating agent which bonds to metals and minerals allowing them to be removed. We have them in our body so this isn't a harmful chemical. Others can slightly vary but it looks like they all include a chelating agent to clean the brush.
This is good for everyone but especially those with hard water like myself. For me I have a lot of calcium in my water to the point where I can clean a razor and after a use or two there is buildup again. I can clean my razors with several things but not really with my brushes, even with shampoo there is buildup and it's very visible when the brush is dry the tips are really still and you can get a small cloud of calcium dust if I brush the knot with my hand.
I cleaned most of my brushes and noticed they don't have this very dry and stiff tip feeling and not omitting this dust cloud if I brush them. I did a "control test" with one of my brushes mainly my Wiborg White Badger. First day I used the brush as usual, it performed then I cleaned the brush with the brush cleaner. Second day I used the same brush after being cleaned. It did lack odor which the cleaner said it would remove so good. The brush did feel slightly softer and I did use MdC which in my water can be troublesome and it did perform well. I think the lack of excess calcium build up in my brush allow the soap to perform which is good cause that means really good soaps for me get even better.
So conclusion would be this product does as it says it does. I did see a difference in my brushes that I've cleaned. If you care about your brushes and want to take care of them getting a brush cleaner will help out a lot especially if you have hard water or just use your brushes a lot since there will be build up.
