Yep, I thought I was missing something. I've done the steam method Marko but some handles don't like it (Vintage especially) Lots of youtube videos doing it if you google it. Here's the one Paul probably intended.

That looks interesting - I wonder if it would work on a Stirling brush?  What do you think ezlovan ?  It would be even cooler if Rod offered just handles for sale, as I said, I love that handle and would love to have it with a premium boar knot.

Just as an aside, because I can't help it  - the guy making the video should work on his production technique.  The camera focused on his intensely concentrating face while he's performing procedures on the brush handle and knot that you're actually interested in seeing is a bit of a problem.  Maybe he just thinks that his fans want to see only his face but even a split screen would be better because I want to see what he's doing.  I got the gist of it anyway. Thanks.


I've honestly not tried it, but anything that I ever try myself to get a knot out ends up breaking the handle 75% of the time. I suck at at. I would love to be able to carry just handles or loose knots. Just don't have the money or the space at the moment. It's on the list though. Just gotta find a way to beat the current economic conditions so we can continue to grow.

I used the steam method on my Stirling boar and it worked pretty well. Issue for me was the residual glue. But I love the handle and will get a knot in it soon and then love the brush!!

I hear you man, carrying a ton of inventory that doesn't move all that quickly is usually not a good idea.  I know you carry a reasonably priced boar brush but as I recall the last time I went through the process, shipping costs to Canada were pretty steep.  I'm not sure if thats changed because I've been able to meet my Stirling Soap needs through Top of The Chain but Carmine hasn't stocked Stirling boar brush.  I will repeat myself - Rod, in my opinion the Stirling brush handle is one of the nicest on the market and that includes all  the bespoke ones.  The shape is so pleasant in the hand and its pleasing to the eye.  

One of my least favourite brushes, an Omega 49. I call it "clownishly large" and cannot for the life of me figure out why it's so popular, but every two or three months I drag it out for a shave just in case it magically got better.

I'd put a heavy-duty hair elastic on it with three wraps, and the excessive splay and floppiness is now somewhat diminished.

I may even put it in rotation with the other brushes.

Now that is a fix worthy of The Red Green Show, for an example of a fix that duct tape may not handle well!

Thank you. I like shorter lofts in my boars & found this one on Pasteur's website. I like it when my boars are firm & remain stable when I push them against my face to get them to splay a little. This is a similar loft to the Premium Jade, but a smaller knot. I know the Premium Jade has different bristles & is unbleached, but I hope this new little Omega breaks in similar to my Jade. A lot to ask? Yes, but why not hope! I just used it for the first time today & it was promising. But it's going to need 20 - 30 more lathers before I can begin to see what its potential is.

Amazing how well that works on any brush lacking backbone. Always remove the bands between shaves for sake of drying and preventing kinking though.
