Homage to an old friend:
For Decemboar, I thought I would give an homage to an old friend. My Semougue 1305 is approaching its tenth (?) anniversary! It seems like it was only yesterday.......
The green paint chipped and flaked off the top 1/3 (I soak it in a cup way above the metal ring-I know) so I sanded it, primed it and painted it red to match the Italian flag and complement my Cella winter shave soap. The tips are oh-so-soft, but I wonder if it has lost a little back bone over the years, or maybe my face has just gotten a lot tougher? Anyway, it is still a great face latherer. I recently bought a cheap Omega boar along with some Omega eucalyptus soap for the summer. It is much stiffer, but the tips are softening up nicely. I use it if I have a three day growth and want a really good scrub.
I have had probably three or four boars (including my first, an Ever-ready c40) over the years, a handful of synthetics and a black badger Omega with a beautiful handle, but the 1305 is probably still my favorite. You can keep the synthetics except for travel.

A wonderful post, and I enjoyed the humorous start! I think you did a great job on restoring your old friend. Well done!

I don't need to wait until November to grow a mustache, or until December to use a boar brush. I prefer boar brushes over inexpensive badgers and synthetics (even expensive synthetics). I've never owned an expensive badger brush so I can't compare, but I doubt that I ever will, unless I can get it at a bargain price.
Well draebeard All of us use boar brushes all year long and don't wait until December to use them. It's just something to do to have a little fun, you know what that is right.... But thanks for stopping by at the end of the month to tell us why you did not want to be involved in this. It relieves the worry we've all had all month because you weren't involved

That said, to comment on your post...
Boar brushes have a whole LOT of bang for their buck. You can't get a badger anywhere near the price. After a few months of use, it'll also be as soft as the most expensive, luxurious badger. I'm not a fan of badgers, but even a 'badger guy' would likely agree that a worn in Boar is a thing of beauty.
I'm a fan of Synths, especially for the ease of use and what they deliver from day 1. Nonetheless, I'm glad I was able to join this fun event. Two years ago, when I tried to learn to love a Boar brush, it was merely 'ok'. I've had so much better results this time and plan to keep them in my rotation year round now. So, for me specifically, DecemBoar really did help to turn me onto a brush you and others love. I'm thankful for that.
Of course, I didn't need it to be in December... I could have tried it anytime. Again, it was merely a fun 'gimmick'. It's nice to have those fun, just for the heck of it, things. At least that's my thoughts on it.

DecemBoar's Final Days
It has been a fun month, and I really enjoyed using my singular boars (Google what a group of boars are called!). For the final days of DecemBoar, this will be my set up:
Henson AL13 Mild V2
Personna Platinum Chrome
PAA Scentsless soap
Maggard Razors mixed badger/boar (70/30) knot in the Stirling handle.
