Jeff, where did you get that large boar brush?

It was a group buy/exclusive for r/Wetshaving on Reddit. This is the same brush. The only differences are the custom dark green color and engraved logo.

The Stirling ones that Dave in KY linked were actually inspired by these. Rod was instrumental in facilitating us being able to import these from Italy AND he was gracious enough to handle all of the shipping to the buyers. He's just awesome like that! Anyway, he was so impressed with the quality of Zenith brushes that he placed his own custom order with them.

It is worth mentioning that the Stirling 31mm has a slightly lower loft so it will have a bit more backbone. Different handle too.

I will never cease to be amazed by how "modern" the Gillette "Old" feels; the perfect mix of efficiency and comfort (for me).

As for the Horizons soap, do yourself a huge favor and get yourself some

The Omega 28mm knot has risen from the ashes for another shave. Lol.

It was a good shave, more comfortable than the last time and the knot felt a little more manageable. However, 28mm still feels HUGE.

The lower setting appears to be both a blessing and a curse. It had less length, which was slightly more manageable for it's size. It also had a harder splay due to the lower setting. We'll see how it goes over the next few shaves.

Edit: It only lost 1 hair this time. Appears to be calming down (I hope).

Playing Devil's Advocate, maybe it needs a spacer to get to the right height and yet be manageable? More putzing around, but hey, that's why this a hobby, right?!

After Eric's suggestion of adjusting the knot placement on the 28mm boar, I decided I would see if I couldn't finegle it to work a bit better. Keep in mind, it works pretty well last time. Still, I'd be remiss if I didn't search for that sweet spot in a setting.

Since it'll need time to dry, I knew I'd need to use the smaller Omega. Fwiw, I think I was calling it 23, as some sites referred to it as such. It's labeled 24mm by Omega and measures 23.4mm. So, I'd say Omega is right. I guess i'll stop calling it the '23mm Omega'. Lol.

Anyway, as I am prone to fidgeting with things, I immediately pulled the knot from the Omega 24 and transplanted it into a different handle. Again, I am very appreciative to have this brush, however I had a better handle in mind and knew it would work out.

I was able to remove it with a little effort (more than the 28mm took) and transplanted the knot to the vintage handle refurbished by Freddie. Ive attached a picture here. IMO, it looks 'classically stunning'. However, looks mean nothing in regard to performance. So how did it work on this evenings shave? Simply Amazing!

I was chatting with Eric about 24mm knots, and the need to reload soap. This one did take two reloads on its last (maiden) voyage. I'm happy to say, with proper soaking and loading, it only needed one reload. For me and a Boar knot, that is absolutely acceptable. I may have even had to reload the 28 on its last use. I can't recall for sure.

Additionally, the knot opened up better in the new handle and really did a wonderful job. It was comfortable without any noticable poking/stabbing. In fact, I might have a tough time going back to the 28 if this one keeps giving such a performance. We'll have to see. Regardless, I now have two great Boar brushes to last me though DecemBoar and beyond. I'm quite happy.
