DE shaving Learning curve

I have really found that taking shorter and lighter strokes in these areas has led to closer shaves with less irritation. I think the shorter, light strokes help maintain form, angle and pressure. I also pull the skin up and off the jawbone curve as previously mentioned. Also don't be afraid to just leave it if you don't get them all, they will be back soon anyhow.

I do three passes down and across the face in both directions then a tuch up. And I always have the jaw line area I hint no if my technique is off or angle around the jaw line but there is allwats a few missed areas there. Is this razor a good starting razor or should I look at somthing like the Mukar 34c

I shave my head, not my face, but the Maggard's V3 is my favorite razor. I have it on the MR22 handle, and it outperforms both of my Merkurs (33c and 37c)and all 3 of my vintage Gillettes.

Work on getting your technique down. No matter what raor you are using, your technique will determine the results of the shave. Stick with the V3, and concentrate on your technique. You've got the basics down, so now perfect your angles.

Also, do a youtube search for things like "buffing" and "J-hooking". These are advanced techniques that can be used to clean up difficult areas. Mantic53 (or something like that) does some good videos on advanced techniques for getting difficult, stubborn areas clean.

Jeffreyba all great advice thus far. If I recall correctly, it was likely still taking me ~45min to shave a month in!

One other thing I noticed is that you referred to your passes as "down" and "across". One of the greatest things I had ever done was actually let my beard grow and identify which direction it grew. It was eye opening and once I started actually shaving WTG to start it drastically improved my shaves. Here's a thread with some more detail that may be helpful.

You just need to be a bit more patient, take you time, map your beard growth, use light pressure and develop your technique.
Things will improve, soon and don't give up.

One thing that I did when I first started using a DE razor was to keep a "shave journal". It helped me to analyze my shortcomings and failings in my technique by verbalizing and writing down my shaves. Just the act of envisioning the shave, and anakyzinf errors helped me improve very quickly. It solidified the parts of my technique that were good, and reinforced the necessary techniques I was still falling short on.

It worked very well for me, and within 2 months I was getting routinely DFS or better shaves without irritation or blood loss.
