You're right, I agree!

I had to share my good experience. I can't say about other people's bad experiences and horror stories or personal attacks. I guess you know better.

Also, I know that iKon is in business many years, although many had bad experiences. Other makers stopped producing razor heads due to malfunction and coating problems and of course there are artisans who changed names and labeling after commiting fraud and many people felt disturbed about their unethical marketing tactics. Nevertheless, iKon still produces razors and has some loyal customers. For me, that's a thing.

It's great that people share their experiences with this vendor (or any vendor, for that matter) on here. One of the purposes of forums like these is to document people's experiences with vendors - big and small. Regardless of whether the feedback is good or bad for a particular vendor, all this is important information for other users.

People can make up their own mind about whether they want to deal with this vendor or not. Some people have had bad experiences and some have had good experiences with him. I had an experience that was so-so: he replaced the faulty item, but was very pissy about it. I was glad with the replacement and decided that I didn't want to deal with the lack of courtesy, so I don't buy items directly from him.

Since that point, I have bought many iKon razors from the used market and they've been fine. However, I find them to not be worth this premium anymore so I've stopped buying them. This is a personal determination, of course. I find most artisan razors to be overpriced --- especially as I can get a perfect shave from a vintage razor or my Standard or my Muhle R41. You can't really improve on perfection. Smile

I wish I would have seen this thread before I ordered my ikon 102 last week but I did just check it and it seems okay.

I haven't shaved with it yet so I'll give it more time.

It appears that there are some things that "everybody" in the community "knows", but noobs like me didn't. I'm thankful that members educated me (sadly, only after the fact), including some other stuff regarding a certain artisan and his shocking and borderline criminal actions. Couldn't think of a way to warn new wet shavers without giving the wrong people another outlet for abuse.

Maybe we should have a Vendor review section - like Yelp. Since DFS is not affiliated with any vendor, we could probably pull it off. That would allow users to consider the reviews before using a vendor.

Andrew - what do you think? Or is it asking for litigation? Smile

yohannrjm, I  cannot answer for andrewjs18 but I don't think it would be a great idea. Most artisans and vendors are well liked by members of the wet shaving community. If not, they would not stay in business for long. The ones that seem most controversial already have those controversies brought up by members. A separate section for rating vendors and artisans could lead to problems of its own, in many cases would duplicate what is already posted, and would make the site more bloated.

This, of course, is just my 2-cents.

As I said, I couldn't think of a good way to do this, and to prevent abuse. However, I don't agree about the "everyone knows by now". I only saw the hype, and nothing of the negative reviews for iKon. And I know it exploded a year ago, but until a few days ago, I didn't know about the PPA/HTGAM/PAA fiasco.

I think for a determined vendor/artisan with loads of money & time, litigation for slander probably isn't too far fetched. I'd rather avoid all of that, personally.

Kevin, was that the very first time you tried to load the razor? I acquired one in the similar time frame and I've used it a few times without issues. None of my razors have seen heavy use this past month as I also have grown a beard so its just been the neck that gets shaved. I hope you get the issue resolved.
