Yeah SC is a great one. I have yet to try one made with olive oil though. I have read some things talking about how using olive oil as a pre-shave can kill your lather, but have no experience with it so I don't know how true it is.

I don't believe I have used a soap containing olive oil as a key ingredient either. I know that it was frowned upon back in the day but then again so was any soap that did not have tallow which has certainly changed over the years.

Would be very interested to hear more from our subject matter experts on the benefits and pitfalls of OO in the mix.

I'm interested on some reviews and expert opinions from soap makers. I don't put too much wait on personal opinions because we all have our biases. But the soap makers, in my experience, are more objective since they don't want to make something they couldn't sell.

The use of olive oil in a shave soap has often been from soap makers who take their bar soap and just add clay and call it shave soap. This tendency has lead to a large degree the idea that olive oil is not good in shave soap, and that any shave soap with olive oil in list has to not work. This is because olive oil soap does not produce a large amount of fluffy lather. But adding stearic acid and other oils that produce fluffy stable lathers can counteract this.

I have not seen any, until CRSW, that have tried to make a real shave soap with olive oil as ingredient. The chemistry is there and it can be done. Some of my own trials, in adding olive oil, have results that would indicate it can be done. My attempts were with stearic acid, coconut oil, castor oil, and a bit of tallow (have to have my fat).

So I am really interested to see how this line does. If so it will open some interesting options for soap makers. Though I think many have already found solutions that give benefits of olive oil without the downside. Olive oil may though be a little cheaper option than some of those options.

I commend them for trying something outside the box.

I have both tallow and veggie based soaps, both of which I really like. For me, it just depends on the scent I'm in the mood for. I never think about the soap's makeup. If I have kept it then I like it;  end of story for me. Winking

One of the best Artisan soaps out there and one that has been around a long time uses Olive Oil in their shave products.....QCS.

All evidence has been buried. All tapes have been erased.

So it appears that they sold out under 12 hours. Im glad picked up a tin to try. I like the winter and fall LE soaps I have and I'm waiting for the Savon No.1 and Spiced Amber to come back in stock to give them a go. If this is anywhere similar performance wise I think it be good addition in my den.

Completely forgot about Matt's stuff. Agreed on the performance- I still have an ancient tub of his original test batch of Key Lime. IIRC the olive oil is WAY down on the ingredient list though.

Could be mistaken...

I have heard of these soaps, but never have looked at them. Thank you for pointing them out. **Adds yet another soap to my list**

I'm glad for Larry, there was a lot of hype about it. I love his soaps, but I'm not into veggies except for a few, so I passed this time.
