Covid strikes!

Gabapentin can also be used as a pain killer for other things. We're giving it to our older dog for the pain of arthritis.

Andrew, yeah, that long ago it has long since worn off. It's gone after 6 months, but there is no jab for the strain making the rounds now anyway. But once you get over it you might have natural immunity (NI). If you hadn't taken the jabs I would have written flat out natural immunity and not "might". But no studies have been done re: NI after having had the jab or having the jab after having developed NI. I follow this stuff very closely and all we get publicly are opinions by people who should keep quiet because when they're called out on it they have no data. I asked the head of the Maine CDC for a link to some data after a public statement by him that I knew hadn't been studied. I got crickets as a response. The next night he walked it back but gave another opinion. I didn't bother asking for a link to that data, I knew there was none. Anyway, the immune system is a marvelous thing and will recognize future strains of covid unless they make one in a test tube that is massively different than todays.

I had covid in Feb' 2020. My wife and I carried on as per normal. There is absolutely no way she could have escaped being infected by me. Yet she never showed even one symptom.  While I was the sickest I can ever remember being, for her, nothing. I have no proof for what I'm about to write. I suspect she didn't get it because she had one of the coronavirus "cold bugs" as a child. We know that she didn't have SARS 20+ years ago, yet another coronavirus.

BTW, my symptoms were different than yours. I had my suspicions in March, but didn't even know what I had until late April when the CDC announced new symptoms and they were exactly mine. I just had it 2 months prior. As fast as this thing mutates (but it's not influenza) the only solution is natural immunity and let our bodies do what they're good at, recognizing an enemy and fighting it. I wish fauci and the cdc would start to follow the science that's right in front of them and has been all this time.

I mean, technically if you've had chickenpox before, you have the shingles virus in your nerve cells for the rest of your life. I'm guessing anyone who was alive before the mid 90s, probably had chickenpox.

My comment about "everyone will get it" was related to covid though.

So I haven't had covid, but last September I had Shingles. It began on my forehead and went over my eyebrow & lid, and around the temple towards the hairline. I was fortunate that I saw my primary care within 48 hours and got on strong anti viral meds. The most fortunate thing was having had the old Shingles vaccine back in 2013. 

At the time they said it was 50/50 that you wouldn't get it if you had the vaccine, but if you did the symptoms wouldn't be as severe. It worked out that way for me. I had a couple of rough days/nights, but the rash never became inflamed, nor did it become populous. The nerve root pain would come and go, radiating over my eye brow and around my temple toward my ear. That lasted for a few months. I wonder if your headaches resulted from the Shingles, or the Covid. The nerve root pain can be severe ... or not IME. 

For some I've read it can last for years. The ophthalmologist said it didn't get into my eye, but I did have some sort of effect on the lining of my lower eye lid. Got drops. I have dry eye now, which I'd never had in 73 years before. Mostly in the corner of the one eye. Still doing the drops as needed.

It was explained to me that Shingles follows the path of the nerve root it begins in. So had it begun on my nose, rather than my forehead it would have been inside my eye before all was said and done. Google reveals the older vaccine I had is considered effective for 5 years. So I got it 9 years ago and it still helped a great deal.

I waited 6 months, as recommended, before getting the current Shingrix vaccine. Expensive, and you have to get it twice, 6 months apart, but since it is possible to get this ninja more than once I went for the vaccine. The current one is considered 90% effective for people over 70. Anyway .... thank the Lord we can still see !

In case anyone needs it, and I wish the occasion never arises, this is an all-natural regimen
of supplements that make short work of shingles if taken early. As always, don't take my
word for it. I'm not a medical professional. Research, check with a dr (although why would
they encourage competition) and do your own due diligence. I've been spared shingles thus
far, as I had chicken pox twice...once as a kid and the second time when I was 21 or so.

A close friend had it and followed this regimen and the major symptoms like acute pain were
gone in about 3-4 days...while the nerve damage took another couple of weeks or so.

The course is for 7 days and can be purchased from online sources like iherb.com.

1. Olive Leaf Extract (3X a day)
2. Oregano Oil Capsules (3X a day)
3. Lysine 1000 mg (3Xday for 2 days, then switch to 2X a day) ...also eat foods with less arginine.

Shingles is a condition that can devastate the nervous system and it causes excruciating pain due
to damaged nerve endings. Gabapentin/Neurontin is prescribed off-label for Shingles , it was created
to treat parents with epilepsy and doesn't always help with pain as effectively.


These are the natural supplements you will need for Post-Herpetic Neuralgia (neuropathy), I would
take these for at least 2 weeks to a month, depending on how you feel. Just follow the dose stated
on the bottle. Twice a day is the dose for most.

While it'll be hard to know for sure if my headaches are from covid or shingles since their symptoms are so similar, my doctor seems to think my headaches are probably from the shingles. In either case, they're easily and by far the most intense headaches I've ever had in my entire life.

I've been on the antiviral pills for 2 days now (Valacyclovir, aka valtrex) as well as the gabapentin. While the headaches aren't 100% gone, they haven't been as frequent or as powerful as before I started on the gabapentin....and I hope they continue on the downward trend until this awful virus is done with me and I can get off of the pills. I'm not big on taking any medicine/pills that I absolutely don't need to take.

I need to get some cream for the rashes though...these suckers are becoming INCREDIBLY itchy...from what I'm reading online, this product from aveeno is pretty popular....I'm going to try to pick it up in the morning: https://www.aveeno.com/products/anti-itc...ted-lotion

This is anecdotal but I've checked with someone who had an intense shingles attack 4 months ago... headaches were not part of it...so could very likely be a result of Covid (or whatever it interacts with). That being said, different people react differently.

There is a pretty effective, non-drug cure for the godawful itchy sensations...Bee Propolis Spray (must be pure propolis and NOT mixed with other herbs like echinacea etc. Just a squirt or two on the area or on finger and rub it carefully around eye area. 

Bee Propolis is f'kin amazing...a must have for any medicine cabinet...great for throat infections, flu etc as well.

I think shingles headaches are highly dependent on where the rash is located. Since mine is on my face and head, it affects the nerves in that area, thus causing the headaches.
