steeleshaves,
Lools great. Lot of work but worth the effort.
When we lived in MD we had two koi ponds. Pre-internet so knowledge was hard to come by.

https://www.lilypons.com was a great help
Water garden specialists since 1917. Named after an actress of the era.
We took a day trip and learned so much. Then received a paper catolog for years.
The web site looks helpful.

In the winter we used a floating stock tank heater to keep the ponds open in the winter. The koi can survive but breakdown gases of fish and plant waste can deprive the koi of oxygen. There needs to be some open water to allow the bad gases to escape.

The ponds wound up being only open ice free water around. Lots of wild life visits. An added bonus to pond life.

Again - great job.

Ps. What is the peacock made of?

Wow.  No half measures for you.  Happy2  I was thinking you had to be nuts until I saw the picture of the young muscle - moving that much soil alone can be a challenge especially as we get older.  I can recall back when we first moved in to the house I'm in moving 50 cubic meters of topsoil with a shovel and a wheelbarrow by myself.  I did it every day after work and it took me close to a month.  I felt like I was in a prison work release program!

Where did you put the soil you dug out?

Well done!

The same Koi pond done in Maine wouldn't sport a peacock but might be seen with a flock of these.

As seen here during their annual migration north with a stopover in Maine for refueling. Big Grin

Put the soil over by the pole shed.  Am going to use a skid steer to raise some low spots I have over there.... I told my wife I need to drink 100 beers before I look at dirt again... I think I am on 75 and counting... which means next weekend I will probably be moving dirt  Wink Peacock is Metal and of all places found it at Menards.. it was like 65.00. I am not sure if its hand painted, I would say not since it came from Menards... but it sure looks like it could be. It's 38 inches tall... best part was we had a rebate from all the other materials from the project so the peacock came home free Smile

I'm pretty sure that real peacocks don't have long legs like that one, but it looks cool anyway.  Happy2

Are there any shallow parts of the pond that birds can use as a bath?
We could be Heroes, just for one day.
