I am not a fan of aluminum razors. To me, they are too light in weight.
I wonder if the handle is hollow or solid?
If the handle is hollow, the weight will be very light. If the handle is solid, the razor will weigh a bit more.
I wonder where the balance point might be.

I received my CR7 last week, but unfortunately I'm committed to a challenge on another forum where we use the same setup for the entire month of August. It will be a difficult couple more weeks of waiting to try it out lol. I did put a blade in it to check out the gap/exposure etc. though. This is the 3 plate, but by the looks of it, it will still be mild. Looks can be deceiving however. I really like the handle. The engraved pattern is a nice touch and provides plenty of grip. The length and diameter are perfect. Here are some pics.

thanks for the photos....it definitely looks like it locks the blade in tight and clamps pretty close to the edge. looking forward to your shave report when you start using it.

I now have one shave in on each of the plates. The new Colonial DE razor is smooth smooth smooth. The 3 plate even feels more gentle than the Karve Overlander. I detected absolutely no blade feel on any of the plates. It does not seem quite as efficient as the Overlander, but it is an extremely comfortable shaver. Those who favor riding the cap will find the Colonial CR7 to be a treat; steep shavers will have to adjust to the 30 degree angle. Angle range feels limited. I am very happy with my purchase.

Do the 1 and 2 plates feel like there’s enough efficiency to get the job done?

I received mine last week and did one shave which was enough to sell it. Beautiful razor but I felt nothing with level 3. I was hoping for more but was disappointed.

The one plate did indeed get the job done on 3 passes. The two plate might be my sweet spot for face shaving. Definitely not effficient enough for the back fringe of my head, which require #3.

The best analogy in my experience would be to compare it to the feel of the Tatara adjustable. That razor has a gentle feel, and still can shave at setting 1. If one suffers from irritation, this Colonial might be a ticket to comfortable shaving.

Again, all of this based on only one shave on each plate. Still much more opportunity for experiencing over the long term. I will be keeping this one.
