I generally like warm water shaving with my scuttle, for the skin feel and the increased lather fragrance for my aging nose, especially in the winter, but I appreciate the comfort of room temperature lather built in a simple ceramic bowl on warm summer mornings.

I prefer warm water. Tried cold water, it was not soothing and lathering capabilities are much less.

Well here in sunny Florida summer is 6 months of the year. Of course I have AC, but I do like the feel of warm/hot lather generated in my small Moss scuttle.

However, I went back to cold water after half a decade of hot and I like the results a bit better with the cold water.

The bit about the whiskers cutting more efficiently when they haven't been softened with the hot water seems to be legit to me. YMMV.  Smile

I've been tempted to go back to hot for the luxurious feeling, but I'm going to stay with the cold for awhile longer.

Takes less time too. I know a lot of y'all like to take your time but after 58 years of shaving ....  Rolleyes

Personally I prefer warm water. I’ve tried cold, but it was too…well, cold. Just not as enjoyable for me with cold water. I do finish with a cold water rinse, however.

Shower Shaver here, so definitely warm/hot.  Like the ice cold rinse to tighten the pores post

Like JimmyH , I’m a speed shaver, 85% of the time anyway however Jimmy has me beat by like 38+ years of shaving experience.  All of a sudden, I feel like a newbie

Warm water speeds saturation, that's what I do. Cold water may be better for skin though. Hot water ain't good for skin.

For the next week, our hot water will be unavailable. It appears like I'll have to start shaving with cold water.
It was refreshing when I tried it once in the summer. However, because it is considerably cooler now, the thought makes me shudder!

If the polar bear club experience turns out to not be your cup of (iced) tea... maybe boil a pot of water, close the sink stopper, and fill it up?

2 passes warm water. Last pass: cold water. Causes the hair to stand up and makes it easier for the against the grain pass.

Hot water for the prep shower and during the shave.
Lukewarm for the rinsing the lather off afterwards, cold for rinsing off the alum.
I mostly like the cold water for the shock value. (Which is probably the reason why I prefer alcohol splashes too.)
