Thanks for the info.  Now that I'm awake I read back further and realized this.

PM me your address. I'll send you a puck of Van der Hagen Luxury scented soap (unused) and a Van der Hagen boar brush (well used) to get you started...
This is so generous of you, pm was sent. I can't say Thank you enough!

Message received. I will get it out to you sometime in the next few days. It may take as long as Saturday to get to the post office, but I will get it to you.

The puck is a backup that I bought locally, so I can replace whenever my current one runs out(long way to go), and the brush has basically been relegated to sitting there and not getting used, so it may as well be enjoyed by someone else.

You are going to want to upgrade the brush, and probably pretty soon. It sheds a bit, but has no foul odor. It's not the best brush out there, but it will get you started, and when you learn how to make a nice lather, you can upgrade to a nicer brush.

A little advice. This is a boar brush. Boars are thirsty. Soak it in warm tap water for 5 minutes or more before you try to load it. Then give it 1 good, hard shake into the sink. Load it wet, or youll have a hard time. Not dripping wet, but wet to the touch.

Bloom the soap before you use it. It makes loading easier.

Enjoy!

Now that itvwont spoil the surprise...Williams is a very, VERY thirsty soap. I bloom the heck out of it, load it like I hate it, and even sometimes add a little bit of shave cream and glycerin to it. It can provide a very decent shave, it just takes some effort to make it work.

The Van der Hagen soap is a lovely puck that lathers very well and very easily. Bloom it for 5 minutes while your brush is soaking and you should have no trouble.

Not sure how much experience you have with different blades, so I gave you a bit of a spectrum.

Derby are good blades that work well for me, but others find dull. I use them in my more aggressive razors to mellow out the shave.

Astra SP are fairly well regarded as a sharp-enough blade with excellent smoothness. Another blade for aggressive razors.

7:00 greens are my bread and butter blade. Very sharp, very smooth, very good price. I use these blades in all my razors with no trouble.

Feathers are fairly well regarded as the sharpest blades around, and with good reason. They are scary sharp, but provide an excellent shave. Be careful with them. A good blade for mild razors with little exposure.

Enjoy!

I used the Van der Hagen soap tonight along with the Astra SP blade, terrific shave, I liked this soap better than Arko which is the only soap I have used. This combination of soap and blade gave me my best shave so far. I look forward to working my way through these blades. Thank you again, this is awesome!
