Great to hear Shawn and looking forward to picking up a bottle soon!

What if I told you that these labels are the first to be upgraded to waterproof labels?

Unless, of course, unmitigated disaster strikes when I try to print them off tonight...
Well, in that case I'll take both the hat and the cattle Smile

NeoXerxes I'm glad you gave this product a try - the performance of both the toner and the aftershave is superb and wait until you try the salve - if you have skin sensitivity issues, the salve is very soothing. Its nice to apply later on in the day. You might want to try the Roborant as well. Its no longer up on the site but it can be had by request. Its Shawn's toner with some tea tree oil and other nice, subtle fragrances and its also very soothing. Its really impressive how complex and unique all of the scents in the Chatillon Lux arsenal are - no variations on a common formula here.

Shawn, I'll give you my Barnegat Bay feedback tomorrow as I did not use it today. I got a tub of The Holy Black's newest soap in the Verdant scent and it struck me as an ideal pairing with Colbeck. I really like Colbeck, what a great scent, crisp and fresh, a little more subdued than the other CL scents but still complex and layered. I'll be looking for full size bottles of that on release. Will you be sending Colbeck and Fourth and Pine up to MenEssentials?

Also, if you're interested, Stefan nailed his soap formula with this latest release - good lather, very slick, great scent. I also got a Gunpowder Spice which is an addictive barbershop/old spice riff.

CB is the only scent of Shawn's that I don't have and based on your description, that will likely have to change.

Look forward to your thoughts on the balance!

Marko I REALLY like Colbeck and look forward to your thoughts. I have been miserly with the sample Shawn sent, trying to make it to July 8th, but after using this morning have barely one dose left. It has edged out Bon Vivant as my favorite, which is really saying something as I love BV and can't wait to grab a full bottle.

Hi kwsher I just completed a live fire exercise with Colbeck this morning as a follow up to a shave using The Holy Black's newest soap version in the Verdant scent - I thought it was a good pairing with Colbeck. I love Colbeck, a little more subtle than other CLs but still complex and layered and with a very crisp fresh scent - I get the gin hit right off the bat and then it starts to get complex on dry down. really nice. I can't believe you haven't tried Colonia Balsamica!? It is very nice, I think you'd like it, probably like it a lot.

I got to meet and hang out with Stefan at the Maggard Razors meetup, and the thought that he puts into his products and his branding is really great. He's a great, sincere guy who is always looking to improve, and I think that new formula shows it. I have it in Sandalwood Smoke, which I absolutely love. It's a really great scent. I also got a pomade in the Gunpowder Spice, but I need to pick up the soap version of it so I can get a better whiff of it. And I should also probably pick up a jar of that Verdant, too, which sounds great, as well as a good companion to Colbeck.

At the moment, due to very sluggish sales (except for one really great customer whose name they didn't tell me, but I think I may know who he is...) in our first week, I don't think there is any interest to take on any more products until sales pick up on their current inventory. Which I totally get, and I think they will pick up over time, but at the moment sending F&P or Colbeck up that way is a non-starter, unfortunately.

I have no idea who that guy might be Confused I do know that I filled out my full size aftershave selection of which I previously had noneSmile I love THB's Sandalwood Smoke - I was going to get it but putzed around and by the time I went to buy it it was sold out. Waiting for re-stock. On ME, noel observation I can make is that they are a tad slow on re-stocking generally. Its like they're waiting for every last unit of a brand to go before they re-stock. To wit, Wholly Kaw, Chiselled Face etc. I figure they ought to re-stock on the stuff that sells and discount the slow movers and then don't re-order the slow movers but for goodness sake, keep a reasonable selection on hand. Thats just me though.

I'll have to just stock up on Colbeck and Fourth and Pine toners and aftershave samples from you then.

hawns, there was no danger of Colonia Balsamica smelling like a copy. I can see how you were inspired by Colonia Assoluta, but yours goes in a totally different direction, and the balance is more towards the top and base rather than the floral ylang elements. I really enjoyed the scent. Is there another similar scent from your line?

I tried the Champs de Lavande aftershave today. This is a really unique take on lavender! I'm used to lavender scents in the shaving world being mostly pure lavender or some slight variation on the note. Champs de Lavande is quite different, as it seems to pair a peppered lavender with almost equal parts (at least in strength) eucalyptus and rosemary. The result is a fine herbal concoction with an almost medicinal (in a good way) tinge. Barrister & Mann's Fougere Classique aside (another great scent if anyone is interested), this Champs de Lavande is the only other lavender scent in the shaving world that smells to me like a 50/50 mix of "green" and "purple" notes. I like it! To me this is how classic shaving products should smell. Elegant, refined, and a smidge medicinal.

Compared to the toner, the feel of the aftershave product was interesting and certainly different! I was nervous about my skin sensitivity, perhaps without reason. I don't know if the alcohol content on these splashes is high relative to others that I've tried (or maybe lower?), but somehow this gave me a strong bite. That said, instead of being uncomfortable, the sting was quickly soothed by a heavy amount of cooling elements (is this the eucalyptus? it also felt like a lot of menthol, or maybe both). Instead of the hot sensation that I get with most alcohol splashes, this one felt icy cool and eminently refreshing. Interestingly, the moisturizing elements seemed to take over at this point and my skin felt as soft and moisturized as it would have if I had used a balm. Despite my finicky skin, I find that I have no sensitivity or redness issue using this alcohol splash.

If I were to make recommendations based on the two products that I've tried, I'd definitely suggest the cooling Champs de Lavande in aftershave form for the summer, and Colonia Balsamica for the spring and cooler summer days/nights. Get you some! I really enjoy the refreshing bite of this product. I'd be curious to see how Champs de Lavande differs in feel and scent when in toner form. Next time I place an order from Chatillon Lux, I'll be sure to order samples in each format in order to compare.

Bottom line: I am impressed by the exceptional performance of these products. The toner will surely be a part of my regular rotation, and I'll probably fit in an aftershave during the summer. Well done hawns!

Incidentally Marko, I'd be interested to try the salve. From what I understand it is made with coconut oil. Do you find that if left on the skin in this manner, is coconut oil comedogenic?

Thank you so much! Definitely a great start to the day reading this!

First of all, I don't know if I'd have a terribly similar scent to Colonia Balsamica, but the Fourth & Pine has been compared to it as being more citrus-heavy, although I don't know. Me, personally, I'd say Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli in that it has the earthiness of the patchouli, while the rose comes out more in the dry down, up front it's more yuzu-heavy. Other than that, Delor de Treget has orange as the focal point, with a little bit of grapefruit, but with a cedar and labdanum-heavy base. Maybe like a heavier, deeper kissing cousin perhaps?

Also, glad you dug Champs. I had to reformulate it partially due to allergies, partially due to it not being quite right. The difference is very subtle, but I think allowing the green and pepper notes to come out more makes it a more interesting scent. This review confirms that, which is really great to hear. I don't think many would notice a huge difference, but I think it got more complex on the dry down with the improved ingredients.

As far as the aftershave goes, the slight cooling is due to menthol. There's just a touch in there so it would do exactly that: soothe instead of freeze. And while it's only 50% alcohol, perhaps that combined with the botanicals is what gives it the bite off of the bat. Anyway, glad it agreed with your face. I had my fingers crossed!

Thanks again, and I will say that some people who suffer from acne have found the coconut oil in the salve to be comedogenic. It's not super-heavy on it, but what I've been told by people who avoid comedogenic products is that it can affect them adversely, but not catastrophically. Personally, I mainly use it during the winter when the heat is on all the time and the wind is chapping my face. But many with oily skin, like myself, often find the toners to be sufficiently moisturizing.

NeoXerxes , I've not found the salves to be comedogenic but I only apply it to the beard areas of my face. If i were to apply it to the more oily parts of my face, around the nose and low forehead I think it might have that effect. If you apply it lightly as hawns recommends, a dab rubbed into wet hands then applied to skin it seems to go on lightly enough to sooth but not overdo it.

Champs de Lavande is one of my favourites and I also like that its way more complex than your garden variety lavender that is ubiquitous in the shaving world - I do like straight up lavender but this is just so much more. I have it in toner a few months old and a new bottle of aftershave - hawns , does that mean i have both the pre and post reformulation product? I'm going to go compare them.

I think Chatillon Lux is carving out a unique post shave space in the shaving world - well done Shawn.
