I find it a little more efficient with a little more blade feel. Fit and finish are very close. The only difference is the inside of the Timeless top plate is not polished like the Wolfman. But it is also readily available.

Mmm. I may have to renew my interest in the Timeless. The Wolfman .74 is close to what I like, but not quite. I ordered an ATT SE2 today, so I have time to think. Back to the Charcoal Goods masterpiece!

Clint, I have Wolfmen in .54, .61 and .74, also the Timeless .68 scalloped and .95 OC and SB. And the usual ‘aggressive’ suspects, the R41, Futur, Progress, etc.

Of course, blade angle and exposure factors into this equation, so I’m using the blade gaps just as a point of reference.

To me, the Charcoal Level 2 feels every bit as smooth as the Wolfman .61 and Timeless .68, but shaves as, or more efficiently than, the Wolfman .74. Perhaps a bit less efficient than the Timeless .95, but a much smoother face feel.

The Level 2 Charcoal is a great combination of smoothness and efficiency. Outperformed a bit by the BBS-1, which to me is the best combination of smooth face feel and efficiency of all the razors I have. That’s why I’m looking forward to getting the Level 3 plates, as I’m thinking they may be more efficient than the Level 2 but equally as smooth.

Also, with the Charcoal Level 2 plate, there’s not a lot of blade feel. I don’t mind blade feel, but I always tend to shave more tentatively with a razor where I can really feel the blade: the Futur, Timeless .95, and even the OC Wolfman .74, for examples. With the Charcoal, I can shave with long strokes on the 2nd and 3rd passes, and to be honest, I’m usually past DFS after pass 2, BBS on pass 3, and it’s a nimble enough razor to do buffing and touchups if I want to shave closer.

Michael, based on this post, I suspect you will find the Level 3 very compelling...

For what it's worth, I consider my Level 3 my most attractive razor, perhaps because it stands alone among my collection of largely silver razors in its beautiful antique brass look. It looks very old, but very clean, exact and flawless. Brian makes not only an amazing tool, but an incredible piece of art.

Charcoal razors is on my list love the classy look.
