I just want to point out that Timeless clearly states on their site that they make little effort to remove tool marks under the top cap.

Would you say the finish was better, worse, or just as you expected?

I kind of expected to see some machine marks in the areas mentioned. I've never held a wolfman nor did I spend a ton of time checking out the few timeless razors I've held in my hand before so I can't entirely compare. that said, the finish looked fine to me - nice and shiny.

Tracking says I will receive the Razor on Wednesday. I’ll put it through its paces when I receive it and give my impressions.

If it’s not too late, I’d love to join in on the West razor. I’ll give the razor a chance to be reacquainted with the Twin Cities.

I received the Carbon Shaving Co. Cx-316L Razor in the mail today, so had to take her for a spin first thing. The packaging is simple but clean. The Razor was inside of what appears to be a cotton bag along with a nice note from Carbon Shaving and a pack of Astra Blades. The Razor is able to rattle around inside the packaging, but didn’t appear any worse for the wear. The finish is definitely not high polish, you can see micro scratches on the finish upon close inspection, as well as machine marks under the top cap much like on the Timeless. The finish is much nicer than a tumbled finish, something more along the lines of an ‘Industrial Polish’. The finish is nice looking, but not something that I would be worried about scrubbing with a tooth brush.

I placed a #10 Nylon washer between the Handle and Baseplate so that there wouldn’t be any marring and then loaded up a Gillette Nacet. The Handle isn’t the most attractive to me personally, but the grip was very clean and crisp and the Handle seemed to balance very well. The Handle allowed for a nice ‘Dart’ grip, and my pinkie seemed to rest naturally under the Base of the Handle much like it does when holding a WRH7 or similar Handle.

I lathered up with some B&M in Excelsior Base, and noticed several things on first pass. This Razor has very good Audible Feedback, it Sings in use. This Razor is also blade forward, which I personally enjoy. There was no point in the Shave where I lost the blade feel, and it was very easy to keep track of. It was also very intuitive as far as finding the correct shave angle, probably a result of the Audible Feedback and the positive Blade feel. Finally the Shave throughout seemed very smooth, from the first to the last pass. The Razor balanced well and was very intuitive in use. I would classify this Razor as Medium/Aggressive, and to me it was just a touch more efficient than a Charcoal Goods lvl 2, and on par with a Timeless .95 SB as far as efficiency. My first Shave with the Cx-316L resulted in a three pass BBS Shave. I’ll pop a Feather in this Razor during my next Shave and see how it likes that Blade.

These are just my initial thoughts after my first Shave. After a few more shaves I’ll be able to leave more detailed thoughts. I’m going to Shave with the Razor tomorrow and Friday, and then I’ll send it off to the next person on the West Coast list. This should give me some good general impressions of the Razor and I’ll still be able to send it off to the next recipient in a reasonable amount of time. HoosierShave, please PM me your Shipping Address so I can send the Razor your way on Saturday. I want to Thank andrewjs18 and CarbonShavingCo. for setting up this Pass Around, it was very kind of both of you to make this happen. I look forward to sharing my further thoughts on this Razor after a few more Shaves!

Update to First Shave

I just showered this evening and I’ve got a TON of irritation on my neck from this Afternoons Shave. It may just be that this Razor and the Nacet didn’t get along for me, I’ll try a different Blade next Shave. I guess this Shave wasn’t quite as smooth as it felt to me during the Shave. I’m not going to be able to Shave tomorrow like I usually would, I’ll have to try again on Friday. I’ll leave my feedback after my second Shave.

Question. Was this Shave the following day after that first Shave or was it 2 days after? Just curious.
Thanks

This update was about four hours after my first shave with the Carbon. I’m too chewed up to shave with it again today. Hopefully it’s just a bad blade combo for this Razor. I’ll get a second Shave with it in on Friday and will report back.
