Scrolling through the BST, I have a suggestion.

If a user has more than 2 active ads withing 2 pages, ask the user to combine the ads to one to two posts.

The reason I suggest this is if a user has ten separate ads, that is nine people who have a single ad that get kicked to page 2 or 3. I support minimalist rules but if one person has half a dozen ads/posts on the front page, infrequent single posters doesnt get the eye traffic thanks to being pushed down.

It could be fixed with a rule but more rules are frowned upon.

Why not a suggestion or a recommendation with enforcement?

Just my thoughts.

Funny you should bring this up as the moderators are discussing this very issue. We have a couple of points of view going around right now so we'll see what comes of the discussion.

We've talked about this some more, earlier today, and for now there doesn't seem to be a viable solution. The things suggested so far have both positives and negatives and we're not sure that anything can be set up within the site itself. If we come up with a solution we'll let you know. Until then, hopefully, common sense should prevail.

I see your point but one post for multiple upper end items seems to bury them too. I know this is a bad analogy but a realtor doesn't throw all the properties up under the heading " houses for sale".

This was certainly one of the ideas brought up that we could see both positives and negatives.  This is just one of those tough calls.  I suppose a member could list smaller lots over more time, say post new items once every three or four days.  However, even though we could suggest it, it would basically be on the honor system as Andrew doesn't believe we can set up the site to do this automatically.  Also, I find this problem seems to wax and wane, getting worse sometimes and better other times.

It would be quite simple to list a maximum of three items on the BST. Once the items are sold, then you can list three more, and so on.
Unless it is an emergency, I believe a little bit of patience could easily rectify this issue. Shy

I was thinking more in terms of active posts in the BST, with really unlimited items in those posts, to leave room on the front page for other members. I am all for less rules so it is a worthy discussion.

the issue is, how do we administrate/automate this? the bst section on DFS is very popular and there's only 4 of us on the team.

I dont know if it is automatable? Should it be automated?
