The best synthetic I have used is the PAA Green Ray 24mm synthetic or another option is the Shave Forge brown synthetic knot 24mm. These are what I use when I’m not using badger because of softness, density and flow through. Those are both much more affordable options than another Muhle. That’s my 2 cents

I had a chance to try out a few PAA brushes at Pasteurs today. All excellent.  Thank you for the suggestion
Zac knows his stuff, he’s one of my fav contributors on multiple sites so I’m going with the Green Ray first, I’ll get back at you Gents! Cheers
Yes. Zah is a gentleman and an erudite wet shave. Great dude. Btw Robby, where did you find those muhle babies in those handles. Niiiiice. I have a25mm purchased years and years ago. Love it. Why do they kill production of such a great product?

Just bought my first Evo today. Heard good things. Ready to give her a go

Thanks for the kind comments you guys. When I was shaving more so every 3-5 days, I used badger exclusively. Then as I got closer to shaving every day, I found better comfort with synthetics as my skin doesn't heal up as fast from a shave compared to how fast my beard grows.

So for years, the first Plisson v1 synthetic was my favorite but the Green Ray knot was instantly better in so many ways. My only gripe was the handle isn't the most ergonomic for my hands. So I still use that if I travel but I bought the brown synthetic knot and a handle from Shave Forge to make a similar brush to the Green Ray that is easier to hold in my hands.

The other synthetic that I really enjoy is the 19mm HJM Mhule black fibre brush. It has no heft and low density but works great for me and the way I face lather. I wouldn't recommend that brush to many because most people prefer something bigger, denser and more backbone.

I was considering getting one of those Omega synthetic brushes but decided to hold off as I am back in a badger buying mode and have a few on the list for later this year and would rather invest in those rather than another synthetic. I am sure it's a solid brush and may be enabled to try one in the future. I always enjoy seeing people finding something that works well and that they like using for their shaves. Good luck in the hunt gentlemen.

Zac is a Gent and he’s honest when he plugs a product, I respect that. I like the why’s of a good and disappointing product so I can make a decision if it might work for me

I agree with products being killed off abruptly.  Cut production, but don’t cut the entire line.  Those 25mm XL’s are really hard to find.  Found mine at a shop in London, both of them, ha.  One is on ice for a new build that Andrew at Viking is going to turn, only he doesn’t really know that yet, lol.  If a synth is floppy and has low density I’m an immediate pass

The 25 was set by Bob at Elite in his handle.  The smaller one was also turned by Bob at Elite.  FloridaCreekIndianecured a few blanks from Kaotic Artworks and sent them to Bob.  Kaotic blanks are beautiful.  My brush is really nice, it’s my new traveler too.  Steve has the brother brush to my small one, you have to see this thing, I’ll get an image from Steve, stunner.  I believe he put a Mühle in his too, don’t hold me to that

What other synthetics have similar characteristics to this brush?

From the 70+ synthetics I've used, I've settled on the STF. I find no other synthetic comes close to the performance, behavior and face feel. Absolutely superb!

(I have the chubby 2 and Evo on the way. Can't wait to compare them to the STF)

There is really nothing that is similar, or even close to Muehle other than a Muehle brush with their STF knot!!

Yep. Tried all the suggestions here and elsewhere spending a few hundred bucks for science. The PAA, ap shave co g5a, and EJ we’re all serviceable but in the end not as good. Ended up just getting all the various sizes of Muhle SFT. I’ll be selling all my high end badgers next as I stopped using them entirely.

Can these be bought as just the knot or this the brush put together already and where from?
