Brush Drying

This is one of the eternal debates: stand or no stand? I have long been of the habit to let my badger [and now synthetic] brushes dry on their base, after a shake and towel strop.

Long ago either Mark or Gary from Simpsons made the comment that if they had intended their brushes to dry hanging, they would ship with hooks in the base. This of particular interest as I had just purchased my first CH2 and didn't have a stand large enough to accommodate.

After that I just began allowing to dry on the counter and have had no ill effects.

What about the community? Rely on capillary action with dry tips or do you hang your brushes?

I have a couple stands so I hang after shaking out and stropping on a towel. My grandfather had the same brush for lord know how long and rinsed it off and set it on its handle to dry beside the sink after every shave with no ill effects. I say, go with what you like to do, either way is fine. This also applies to the let them dry in between uses. Again, grandfather had one brush, used daily.....

I have some on stands and some sit on their bases. I see no difference. I believe where a stand is most needed is when the handle does not have a flat base or, for whatever other reason, won't stand on its base.

Northern hemisphere - use stands. Southern hemisphere - set it on its base. I think.

I suspect, from what I have read, that either way is fine; but since I have a couple nice acrylic stands, I use them. A brush hangs on a stand for 2 days after use before being put back up on my display/storage wall case.

If you cross the International Date Line it creates a whole new layer of complexity in brush care and you must let it dry (1) day in a stand and (1) day on its base. The same day of course.

I clean out the brush, strope on the towel and dry standing on the base with my synthetics and my horse hair.

If it's badger or boar, I tend to still use a stand even though leaving them on their base is fine. Synthetics are ones that I have no problem with leaving on their base since most of the water is gone after you flick and towel dry it.

I have around 15 brushes but only 2 stands for my SOCs, boar and 2band. After cleaning the brush, I try to remove most of the water. I don't think that stands are necessary.
