Boar brushes popularity

I found that my boars broke in faster if I lathered with a scuttle.  I used either a Dirty Bird scuttle or an Sarah Bonneyman scuttle and both have a fairly rough bottoms which I think accelerated the process.  I have that brush with a red handle well broken in and its really nice as well as the Semogue brushes I have.

I can see where the scuttle could speed things up. I did a three-day fridge soak for this one, followed by a couple of test lathers and some time brushing it against a towel. It’s been quite nice on the face since the first use, and doesn’t hog as much lather as a Semogue I used to have.

I only noticed after three days when I was drying it on the towel trying to break it in. All three of my new brushes contain more that one strand in each brush.

Sterile or not, I don’t want the red stuff from an animal to go on my face.

My fairly new Omega had some of the thick, dark bristles, which I just clip away as close to the knot base as possible. Nothing like this, though. I completely understand not wanting to put the brush up to your face after seeing something like this…

I'm new to the whole wet save, as well, so many choices and so many opinions. Looking for a section that would serve us, newbies. Right now I'm just reading and trying different suggestions.

johnnyk288, a section for beginners would definitely come in handy for those who are new to this. On the other hand, in this hobby it is sometimes difficult to make generalizations, so not everyone might agree about some of the advice in such a section…

The Search function can be helpful, and also just browsing the sections with the topics that interest you most.

Generally speaking that you are most likely correct. Shaving is a very personal undertaking. I'm not sure what that section would like. I know the section brushes and the associated link which lead to a site that covered many other technical shaving topics were very useful. Personal preferences and opinion are more difficult. I personally like the videos online. Thanks for the help.
