Blackland new SE razor.

I will do a full and proper review after 1-2 weeks of daily use. 1 week on the Kai mild then a week on a Feather Pro.

Great reviews and comparisons so far guys! Can someone do a head-to-head against the Colonial General? That one is my go to SE.

I received the razor today, and shaved with it using a Feather AC Pro blade, and Cremo Latherless Shave Cream.
 
It felt a little harsh, but first shaves on a Pro blade often do; or maybe it was the latherless shave cream.
 
It did however, give me a very close and irritation free shave.  For the next shave, I'm definitely going to lather up.

I'll use it for a week before I offer an opinion.   I was clearly wrong about the handle; it's not too long, and is excellently balanced.

I no longer have my General, but in answer to your question, I find it lighter, better balanced and more maneuverable. With Blackland’s money back guarantee, you can’t go wrong trying this baby out.

A minor flaw that is worth noting, that could easily be corrected in the next iteration:

The top corners of the blade are exposed at the top corners of the razorhead.

They are not cutting edge sharp, but they are slightly annoying, and there is no functional reason for their exposure.

A mere 1/2 mm more width per side at the top, would address the problem.


The Clean Shaver also noted in his YouTube video review, that the razor would not stand on it's edge.

Adding that 1/2 mm more width at the top, could also square the edges up sufficiently to allow it to do so.


Afterthought:  I now wonder if Shane did that intentionally, to facilitate the removal of recalcitrant blades.

I got such a good first shave from the Vector yesterday, that I'm not going to shave today.  I do want to share some pictures of the

Vector head mounted on a Durham-Duplex handle.  The Durham-Duplex aka Wade & Butcher has long been a favorite handle of mine.  

Using it shaves 14 grams of weight from the razor, bringing it down to 63 grams.  I used a 44 magnum case gage as a razor stand.

This was intentional for blade removal when they get stuck. Also, I don’t consider the ability to stand it on the side of its head to be an important feature in any way. To do so would disrupt the aesthetic flow which is more important.

At this stage, I don’t expect to make any revisions or changes before ordering more production, which I’ll be doing soon. While nothing is ever perfect, I don’t yet see any mistakes to rectify and I’m pleased with it. I generally try to avoid having several iterations of the same product in order to keep improving it. The Blackbird got a small tweak three years ago and that’s been the only revision for any razor I’ve released. This probably won’t be different especially since, from a design perspective, the Vector is my best work.
