Blackland DART

Well, damn the torpedoes ....

In anticipation of the Dart’s arrival, I hadn’t shaved for several days. Since I can’t use my right arm right now, I went with no prep, Aveeno goo, a fresh Personna Red, and a single WTG pass with very minimal touchup. Much of my beard grows flat against the skin, so I NEVER just do WTG, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Was it the best shave ever? No, but damned good under adverse circumstances. The Dart was quite efficient at mowing the stubble down, even WTG. Despite my very poor left-handed DE technique, I only had two tiny weepers. There was plenty of feedback, but again, that was with no prep whatsoever, not even a splash of hot water first. I was shaving wire.

All-in-all, I’d call that a great success. I love the machined finish and compact head shape. The huge lather exits make rinsing a breeze. Grip and balance were great. I can’t wait to try a proper shave with it.

Got a second awkward left-handed shave in this morning, roughly 10 hours after my initial single-pass WTG. This time I used Proraso White preshave, Aveeno therapeutic goo (can’t whip up a good lather with a brush right now), and went for a full multi-pass shave.

I’m very impressed by how efficient and effective the Dart is for the trouble spots on my throat.

I think this may be what some were hoping for and disappointed by in the RR Game Changer. No criticism of the GC is intended - it’s beautifully made at a great price, and so few come up for sale that I suspect the silent majority of buyers are thrilled. That said, the Dart is significantly more efficient and easier to use around the nose. I did a final touchup pass with the GC just to confirm, but the Dart really left almost nothing behind for the gentle GC to clean up.

That is very good to hear. After doing all the maniacal stuff to be one of the first to get the GC, it was kind of a let down shave wise. Nice looking, well built, and very affordable, but did not shave as efficient as I thought the name implied. I held off on the Dart to see the reviews first as I knew from past experience that Blackland is not one of these places that would sell out in an hour and then there is a one month wait. Looks like the Dart will move up to the top of my list now.

Actually, the design of the Dart is more like a Mamba on steroids than the GC (ignoring the RR reverse blade posts). It’s a big step up in efficiency from both, much less picky about the angle, and has rounded corners like a Rex (the Dart’s guard bar is just slightly longer than the Rex). Sort of a Super Mamba, sort of, and definitely a home run for Blackland.

This is what I was waiting to hear having both the mamba and the GC and both giving me awesome shaves, but obviously a couple of steps below my copy of the blackbird. I now know where the dart belongs !

I have the Mamba, GC, and Rex, but have never used a Blackbird.

Had my 2nd shave with the Dart this morning. Ended up with a BBS shave with 3 passes and some light cleanup. This is only the 2nd shave but I'm really starting to feel like the Dart is similar to the Blackbird in many factors...as Shane mentioned in a previous post, the Dart is like the Blackbird's little brother. But the Dart is a razor that can be used in "cruise-control" whereas the Blackbird really requires my utmost attention. The closeness of the shave is better (imo) with the Blackbird but that "cruise-control" is huge as well.

I tried both the Mamba and the GC both of which provided very comfortable shaves. But I really had to work the cleanup passes to get near or at BBS with those two razors.
