So, first shave with the Osprey this morning and did not have time to take pics yet. I must say that I am impressed. Used a Gillette Nacet and started at the 9 setting for the WTG pass and then backed it down to 8 for the ATG and XTG passes. No cuts or weepers and the razor is smooth at that 9 and 8 setting with a nice amount of blade feel and aggression. Got a great BBS and the razor is highly efficient from what I could tell after the shave was finished. I think settings 7-9 will be used by me on this razor at all times. I love the longer handle and it’s extremely well balanced. I am going to take the insert out at some point to see how it does without it just for shits and giggles. Might eventually have the top cap polished on this one but we shall see. I can’t WAIT for the titanium version of this one! Overall, Shane and company have a winner on their hands with this one! It joins the club of all of my other adjustables and really holds its own next to my Rocnel, HLS, Tatara and others. Great job Blackland and looking forward to seeing what else you all have in the works!

I tried 4 methods of application before I was able to make it work. The working solution was rubbing in a light layer with a cloth, waiting 15 minutes and buffing lightly to remove excess.  This took several tries.

My conclusion is the engraving is too shallow to accommodate paint. I expect these to rub off quickly.

Love the contrast of the black paint on the numbers and the dial. Hope Shane does this on the titanium model!

Agree, looks good, and certainly makes the numbers much easier to see. Unfortunately, as cornbread mentioned above, I suspect the paint won’t really last…

I had a similar experience with HLS Taiga: their first two batches of razors were produced and sold (a while ago now, around 2020-2021) with enamel painted numbers and writing on the underside of the baseplate. I got mine from the second batch, looked quite nice, but the enamel started to rub off pretty quickly, after only a few weeks of normal use.
I contacted HLS, who asked me to send the razor back. They had it for a couple of months, and were quite good at keeping in touch. They said they had tried different methods and types of paint, but couldn’t find a way to make it last. So we agreed they would send the razor back to me with just the engraved numbers, without any paint.
And I believe since then most/ all of their subsequent batches of adjustable razors (Taiga and then Elbrus) have been produced and sold with “bare” engraved numbers, no paint (some batches/ models appear to have laser etched numbers instead).

I don’t know if Blackland Razors has already researched whether there is an option to have painted numbers which will last…?

I received a package today containing a Blackland Osprey razor. It arrived beautifully packaged and the package contained a beautiful razor and stand. I’ll shave with it tomorrow or the next day - I got some sutures in my face yesterday so we’ll see when I’m ready but I’m looking forward to taking this finely crafted tool/ artwork for a run. Shane, this project has been first class from start to finish. Thank you.

Enamel is tricky. We've experimented with it and haven't gotten it down quite right. It's surely doable and we'll be looking into solutions including enamel to make the Osprey's numbering stand out even more.
